I'm new here so first question is are there many Tri-5's here?. second question, I'm going to install a 89-96 c-4 IRS in my 56 Nomad and I'd love to use a aftermarket frame but $ wise its out of the question. Has anyone adapted IRS to their stock frame?. I do all my own work and think that this is in my skill range, but I would like to hear from someone that has done this swap. Pics and measurements would be great.
Thanks in advance.

c4 set up in a 55 will need to be shortened and leads to issues slamming the car, will it be on air ride? if so i would look into doing double a arm rear susp

Call Paul Newman at Car Creations, you can find him on the web at carcreations.com, he been doing C-4 front and rear suspension for tri-5's sense the early 90"s. He mainly does front and rear. Also they do the convertion to your frame or can sell you a frame. FYI we had them do a frame for a 55 Nomad project we are building with a LS7 and a 4L70e auto.
Also with Paul set-up nothing on the C-4 suspension narrowed so that it works the way GM's high paid and educated engineer's designed it to.
One other thing is Car Creations has new rear Dana 44 cases so you are not stuck having to use a questionable old case.

Russ,
You do not have to shorten your C4 rear unless you want to run wheels wider than 10" and a deep dish. I have a stock width 92 IRS w/ 17x9.5" corvette stock rear wheels under my 56 4dr post that fit fine. My front and rear ride height is less than 5". I had a tube chassis scratch built for mine but I have seen them adapted to stock frames as well w/o shortening and on airbags.
Look here: http://www.picturetrail.com/chevynut and contact Laszlo he has converted bunch of stock frames to C4 and he is working on the exact same car as you.
This one Laszlo helped w/ is on airbags w/ a stock rear. http://www.1sick57.com/

Thanks for the input guys. At this point in the build I'm leaning towards coil overs in the rear and the IRS adapted to my stock frame. 4Ofakind (Mal) your pic's and web site are just what I needed. I have also followed Chevynuts buildup through the years and am always amazed at his talents.
As soon as I update my computer I will start a picture trail of my build.
Thanks again.
Russ
