My friend Brenden will be there with his BMW both sat and sun.

It will be the first time out there with the Camaro. I hope I don't fail the sound limit, but I will take it very easy between 5 and 6, as I saw folks doing on the 22 Dec event. I did get new wheels and tires for the event, so the chunked white letter T/A's are retired for track use. This will probably take some getting used too, and require some tuning too. The brakes may not be up to the task at Laguna either -I have C4 brakes with front ducting and Porterfield R4S's- so I will monitor the temperatures and go easy on them too. It looks like it will be dry which is a welcome change. I have a lot on my plate here, but it certainly should be fun!
David if you are around please stop by. My car is not much to be impressed by as it is a mild daily driver. I will be there helping Aaron on Saturday and running the Camaro on Sunday. That Branden can really wheel that BMW around the track. He should do well when the racing starts.

Cool and I'll stop by and get pictures of you this time. Your brakes will be fine if you brake early and come on the power before the apex. Heavy late braking will get you about three to five laps, if that. And your car will be just fine. You'll have lots of fun and if you're around Saturday night, dinner???

We did have more "sound" coming from the intake than from the exhaust. Changing to that dual-snorkel enclosed air cleaner ('70 Z28 style) really helped and dropped the dB by about 4 points.

See you tomorrow and Sunday,
Mary Pozzi

If you have a stock oil pan, overfill it by 1/2 quart. Good insurance since turn 2 is very hard on stock oil systems. The long straight pumps oil up into the valve covers, then turn 2 hairpin sloshes what's left to one side.

It was quite an eventful Weekend at the track. I ended up driving in Winter conditions with rain in all sessions except the first one, and even sleet in the final one. I think everyone will call me the "Rainmaker". I got front wheel slides, rear wheel slides, I got sideways almost to the point of no return in turn 5. As a contrast the day before it was 64 degrees and beautiful. My friend Aaron drove his car on Saturday the 19th and had a very good day and went quite fast for a 1st timer. But getting fast too quick bit him back as in the third session we ended up going in multiple directions before ending up in the gravel trap outside of turn 2. It was such an exciting track exit even the officals were laughing about it. It took an hour and a half to get the gravel out of his car including between the tire and the rim! Mary and David Pozzi were quite ammused by the large piles of gravel that were still there the from the cleaning the day before.

The facts: Laguna is a great track. With the car: The brakes were a problem, and there are multiple issues contributing to the trouble (plus Laguna is very hard on the brakes). I broke a motor mount which caused some throttle sticking issues, and the power steering belt jumped off at 6000+ rpm under the bosch Bridge before turn 5 in the last session giving me Popeye forearms. For an encore it started to sleet for last 10 minutes of the session. It was quite a day! I don't fear rain anymore.

CurtiSS, I saw you running around the track out there. A buddy and I were down in Monterey just seeing what was around there (I'm new to Nor Cal) and I just had to come down and check out Laguna Seca. Your car looked really good out there and it was nice to see a muclecar tearing it up with all the Bimmers. Actually, just as you were leaving the pit area, I was coming down over the swail in my green neon. I'm sure you noticed it, haha. Now to just finish up my car and join up with NASA.:drive1:

Curtis, nice to see you guys, your car is very nice, but fix that master cyl! :)
It was quite something to see a 69 Camaro out running the track in the rain!
Mary got photos and will post a link to them when she gets them uploaded.

Thanks for stopping by, and getting some photo's too. Yes it would be nice too have brakes that last more than half a lap, and a throttle that will close everytime. Motor mounts and master cylinder are on my to do list. The track really exposes things that street driving can't expose, and each track exposes different things. Other than the miserable weather it was a great time. It's too bad I was unable to check the forum on Friday, as it would have great to have dinner with you folk's. Ended up going to Central Texas Barbecue in Castroville. Hope we can run on track together with some of the others soon.

Scatpack you should have stopped by. What kind of car do you have? Regardless come on out and join us even if it is in the Neon. How far along is your car? If you are around 9-10 Feb I will be at Infineon both days. Stop by if you can especially on the 9th as they have a free barbecue and beer bust on Saturday after the races.

They're coming ... been slaving on the '68 and it's been kicking my butt. I've never known that a car can have so many sharp edges on bits and pieces. My hands look like I flunked Beni Hana training.

CurtiSS, I was just coming down the Swail heading towards the pits as you were leaving, so I didn't get a chance to talk to you, but as I was watching you out there, I was wondering if you were on Pro-touring or Lat-g. Actually, I took a few pics on my phone, so everytime I make a call, there's your car screaming up to turn 5.

Infineon is only a couple hours north of me (Hayward) so I'll see what I can do about coming up there and checking it out. It's smack dab in the middle of a crazy week of exams, but we'll see. I'd love to see that Camaro up close

Hey Curtis,

Check out your photos for the January 20th NASA track day. Feel free to "take" any for your own use.

The majority were taken from outside of Turn 2 so there should be repeats.

cool pics Mary,thanks for sharing.

how'd you do yesterday @ Marina?

I was one of the quickest of the non-4WD cars. Very surprised how well the '02 SS did and I've never had such a light throttle foot as I did yesterday. The Subies and Evo's are very good aquacross cars. Most of the RWD's either understeered, oversteered, and caused serious cone carnage. I kept it clean and really worked on my wet weather driving.

Miserable conditions all day ...

Cheers,

Hello Mary,

Thanks for the great photos! You are very good at panning. What camera and what shutter speed did you use? I love the way the body is in focus and the wheels are in motion. Well done.

I can't wait to get back on track.

It's a Nikon D80 with the 70-300 Nikkor lens. Great camera. Some of the shots were dark due to me playing around with shutter and apertures but most were just shot at shutter speeds of 250 or thereabouts. Glad you liked the pictures ...

Come out and autocross with us too. The next one is at Marina airport on February 24th. We run the fifth group and work sixth. Have no idea what the course will be like but we'll have fun. Usually we get together for dinner afterwards.

PM me if you want to attend and need directions to the autocross site.

Cheers,
Mary Pozzi
