we're about to purchase a good paint gun to use on our little projects, our hundred dollar special is at the end of it's ropes
we don't have the largest air compressor, and was wondering if anybody had any experience with the regular and RP sata 3000
the RP uses less volume of air at a bit higher pressure so it's better for less compressor power, but the regular 3000 has far less overspray
any suggestions?

well both guns are great choices and I have one of each. The RP might be a better choice the 3000 seems to put a tad more material out and with less pressure that is not a good thing. I got 100psi at all times so I really cant say from experience which is better might. want to upgrade the ol compressor if your buyin one of those guns at 600 or so a pop just go all out and spend a few grand on a bigger compressor. Just to throw this one out there I also use Iwata's LPH400 and to me that would actually be a better coice if you dont keep alot of compressor pressure.

i did a little more investigating and it seems our compressor puts out enough air for the regular HVLP
my buddy is buying it for me as the price to paint his car
:D
i told him that's a pretty good cost for a paint job lol

I have the Sata 2000 Dig. I love that gun to death. I have used the 2000 RP, and i really dont like it, you have to move faster, Alot of guys use the RP for clear.
As for the 3000, a painter i have known for many year(you got me into body and paint work), just bought a 3000 Dig, to paint his own truck, and i talked to him the day he painted it, and he said that the best Sata gun he has.
I want to get a 3000 Dig for clear. And keep my 2000 for base. I have a KLC for primer.

i have the rp and love it but if your compressor wont keep a steady presure your paint wont look the same...consistancy is what painting is all about...i spray base with a devilbis gti and clear with a rp..i also paint in a booth at my work.the gti sprays at half the presure that the rp does. good luck and post some pics

I have both and love them. I use the RP for clear and the hvlp for base. I'd recomend the hvlp though for you just because the RP uses alot of air and its sounds as though you don't have a commercial compressor.

i use the sata 2000 digital with the 1.4 tip for high solid clear & another with a 1.3 for color. the smaller tip atomizes better & helps distribute the high metallics like silver , copper, gold etc. more evenly than the larger tip. i love em'! best guns i've ever owned.
