Dirk - be ready for instant video game addiction.
Symptoms include:
- loss of time
- finger blisters
- high usage of sick days
- beard growth
- occassional screaming & throwing of objects at TV
- when reached - Level 10 euphoria
Both systems are awesome. PS3 might have a wider variety of games. The driving games are out of this world.

I'd go PS3 for driving and Xbox360 for shoot em up/fighting games. Nobody can afford me having either.
edit: xmas eve....I guess Santa doesn't like me working much. Xbox360 under the tree. It was nice knowing all of you.

PS3 for the driving games, Pro street is way more fun on PS3 then 360 for some reason.

I have both. Since my brothers and my xbox 360 gave us the red ring of death within two weeks of each other, I'd say go with the ps3. The graphics are better, AND it plays bluray movies. You have to buy a whole HDDVD add on for 175 to play hddvds on the xbox.
Definitely PS3, and you can play Blu-Ray movies.

Buy the xbox360 at Costo and return it with any problems. Xbox360 is not included in their 90 day return policy and therfore you can take it back whenever you may enconter problems. One game defines all systems - Halo 3. Driving? Forza2. Chek out gamespot.com for info on the best systems and games. Their rating system is outstanding. By the way, the whole blue-ray thing is directly related to Sony and will not play HDDVD's. Bring it beeoch!!!!

I say 360. I have both and hardly play the PS3. I did have to send in my 360 because of the ring of death but they have supposidly fixed the cooling problem and mine has been good so far. If I had to choose again I would get the 360:headbang:

I LOVE the xBox 360 mostly because of Forza2 and I don't even own one! I just play it at all of my buddies homes!
and just this last week they released even more cars over xBox live including the 2nd Gen Trans Am!!! I greatly prefer 360 over PS3, although I'd bet PS3 has more future game potential since its more recent technology.
I also prefer the 360 controllers! they remind me of the somewhat forgotten SEGA Dreamcast which I still own! Although rarely if ever use.

I've heard the XBox 360 is better then the PS3 myself from all the owners on Nastyz28
who have them. My brother got a PS3 though. I haven't touched it much.

Thing is, and I've owned a 360 for some time, mind you. The PS3 is a relative n00b in the game software market. They are simply porting games over to it right now. When the software companies start making games *for* the PS3, there will be NO comparing the two. The GPU is just that much better in the PS3. This is especially important for your desired games. Racing games are separated in respect to their awesomness by how good they look. The PS3 has gran truismo, IE the benchmark by which all racing simulation games are measured. Why just try to measure up? Why not have the real thing?

Stopped at gsxrkens house to try out forza..wow.Just scratched the surface but lots of cool stuff there, the vette at laguna seca sounds so sick.

Right now all the multi-platform games look better on the 360. Game designers first program their games for the 360 because it is simpler and they have had years to figure it out. So nearly the full power of the 360 is being harnessed. The PS3 is the opposite. As was said before they are more or less porting the 360 games to it. The PS3's GPU is actually less powerful than the 360's. What the PS3 does have is an 8-cell processor, that's proving to be a bitch to program for. So its power is not yet nearly harnessed. Personally, we are buying an XBox this Christmas, because of the slew of great games released this year. Next year, the PS3 might look better. I'd bet on it taking a while.
Cliffs: 360 for right now. PS3 for the future.

For me it was not a hard choice because:
1) I already have a collection of PS2 games.
2) I can re-use my PS2 memory cards with an adapter.
3) Blu-ray + regular Dvd player, takes up less room in the barracks.
4) Upgrade the HDD to 250+ gigs.
5) Winamp remote alows me to play mp MP3 from the computer.
6) On-line is free unlike X-Box live.
7) Wireless controlers + reuse my existing wireless keyboard.
I have the "60 gig" version becuase of the PS2 native hardware chip...

I think the key with the Xbox 360 is to get the new "Elite" edition.
Today I read that the computer board used in the standard white Xbox 360 has a 33% failure rate which is acknowledge by Microsoft, but the new Elite edition that has the 120GB Hard drive and I think has HD output as well only has a 2% failure rate.
So from that viewpoint, if I recieved a 360 I'd probably go exchange it and spend the extra $100 for the Elite
Or perhaps we should just stick to the papyrus :hammer:

I still have the steering wheel for ps2...
I love forza but I do have an issue with the steering, the joystick and steering are super twitchy. Its likely a combination of things , middle aged fingers dont help. I will try the wheel when I get a chance. Changing the alignment specs helps but thats a pain to do every time you grab a new car.
Heres the really crappy part, the game seems to freeze once in a while or I get the "cant read disc" message. Really weird is my shelby and some other cars are missing their wheels.Theft maybe?
The disc for forza has some slight scratches, I may borrow antoher disc and try it. If not I will go back and return it, get the premium.

Yup if you do get a 360 best to get the Elite version. Bought mine when the Elite launched and haven't had any problems at all. Bigger Hard Drive and HD output. If you want to compare the PS3 and 360 anyways you have to go with elite version to match cost anyways.
Also the new cheaper priced PS3's (the $400 ones) are only 20gigs, no memory, no SD, no compact flash, no WiFi, and no HDMI outputs. So to get the best out of both you have to cough up the $600-800 and get the higher end versions.

If you do decide on a 360, do yourself a favor and go dig need for speed: most wanted out of the bargain bin. My favorite need for speed game of all, one of my favorite racing games of all, way better than carbon, miles ahead of pro street. Plus it's CHEAP now!

May your xBox rest in peace....
Speaking of NFS Most Wanted, I have that for PC and will attest to it be a pretty fun game but once you get the high-end fast cars it gets pretty insane and unreal as you don't really have to use the brakes or anything, but I suppose thats why its a "Racing Game" and Forza and GranTurismo are "Racing Simulators".
BTW does anyone else use the realistic damage in Forza2? I do in every race but on Xbox live somewhere it said that only 20% of users choose that! How lame... Either way I try to keep my Z06 out of the wall.

Do the ps3 and xbox elite both play hi def dvds?
None of the X-box series play HD-dvds with out the add on drive according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360
All of the PS3 20/40/60/80 play Blu-ray movies.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS3
The PX/BX's overseas carry very few, if any HD dvds...
Another reason for getting a PS3 60 gig version.
The more important fact is that there are two hi def formats and most of the movie studios only produce movies on one of the two formats. Only one or two? produce movies in both formats.
If you want a hi def player wait for the third or fourth gen dual players from LG/Pioneer/Samsung to hit the market. They cost $999 now and have been coming down in price...

i wanted the ps3 but at the time they didnt have any games...and the xbox was cheaper this was in june..i play call of duty 4 on xbox live and that game is hands down one of the best..im still watching the ps3 to see what they come out with but nothing for me to run out and go buy one..
my x-box did get the red ring of death which microsoft knows about and has extended the warranty to 3 years from purchase price, i warranted mine through best buy popped off my external hard drive and swapped them out...easy
i went through 3 ps2's so im sure the ps3 will have some issues...but both seam to be great machines

Ok here is my spill on it. I like gaming but one of my good friends is a console gaming freak. He eats, sleeps, and craps gaming! His system of choice [and mine] is the xbox 360. The xbox does have its hardware problems but they have a 3 year warranty for that. The developers hate the ps3 system they say the software is not developer friendly. The online is hands down the best on the 360. As far as blu-ray and hd that is a battle by its self. In a year or two one format may be obsolete if not both. Now this is strictly opinion but the future of hi-def movies is going to be downloading them to a hard drive and watching them from there. Kind of like a DVR. Look at what ipod and mp3's did for music. It would be relatively the same concept.

X2 - This is the same logic that led me to a PS3. I dig it, and we signed up for Netflix and have a steady stream of Blu Ray HD movies coming to the mailbox. This justifies the purchase full IMO. We have a 60-inch Sony HDTV and HDMI to tie them together. The viewing experience is excellent.
I've had no probs with PS3, and my online connection is wireless too, which works great. The next step is a full-boogie home theater surround sound deal, which will happen when wireless speaker technology is up to snuff.

I remember when "night driver" was a cool game. It was basically a bunch of white dots winding past the viewer, you used a steering wheel to get through them. Like "pong " for drivers.

On a side note, Just yesterday I got around to calling XBOX support for my "one light on, error 71" 360. While on hold and answering a few of the automated character Max's questions about the problems I was having with my 360, "max" promptly connected me to some "Nasty hot" XXX chat lines, where girls were waiting to talk to and "do anything I asked them" All sorts of vulgarity was used. Stuff like "Ooooh baby, I want you to *in* me, make me all messy!! *Squeal!*" just enter your credit card number....
It was SHOCKING even for the hardcore gamer I am. I hung up, and called back. This time I got an actual operator, who when I told them "max" had connected me to porn was not surprised, "It happens all the time" she said. "they are working on it."
Microsoft cannot solve an issue of it's own automated answering machine calling 1 900 numbers? Believe it.
