Yep. Spent 3 days on the USS McFaul and was basically humbled by those men and women. They are all selfless patriots who don't get enough praise.

Nice they made the papers, but most guys out there never expect recognition, they do the right thing because it needs doing, not because it will end up in a paper or on tv. Rarely is the true story accurately portrayed in either media, but I like to believe that most level-headed people around the world know that there are VERY few war mongering people in the military, they are just your average everyday joe, looking for a decent job that gives them some semblance of satisfaction. These ship drivers, doctors and aircrew definitely got that from saving this girls life. Go Navy (beat Army)!

Cool, we just had one of our Nubs get a Navy Comm for saving a dude from drowning off a fishing pier down in Jacksonville. Turned out the guy was a fellow Sailor and told his command about it. Not bad for a new guy that pretty much just got to the Navy.

i still find it funny how impressed civilians are by that. it's a pretty standard mission for the Navy.

If the news doesn't cover it, we never hear about it. IMO the news doesn't like to cover the positives of the armed forces. Even if it is a regular occurance, it's still damn cool.
