I regularly (too regularly) order parts from Ames Performance. They are a Pontiac restoration parts house here in NH.

I received a big box from the yesterday that contained about $100 worth of parts I had ordered. Today I recieved another BIGGER box today with another $525 worth of parts I did NOT order! So of course, I start going through all of the boxes like it is Christmas (well it almost is!). Interesting, all '69 Firebird stuff...SWEEET! Maybe I ordered this stuff? Am I losing my mind? I checked the label and it is my correct name and address. Then I checked the packing slip and sure enough, it is supposed to go to a guy in WV. And they billed him. Double SWEEEET!

After looking really long and hard at the nice $220 hood tach (which I need) and the $80 wiper motor (which I need), the door modlings (which I need), the rear emblems (which I need), outer wheelhouses (don't need), I called my wife and she confirmed what the right thing to do is. :getout:

I called Ames to let them know and they are sending UPS back to pick it up. :squint: They don't know how it happened.

So, if Ben in West Virginia is on this forum, I just wanted to let you know that your package will be a few days late, but it will be there!

Santa, I hope you are watching, I am expecting a BIG present this year! :santa3:

You'll never go wrong being honest. My wife and mother-in-law are ordering me items for my 68 bird, and my wife received one order but the other hasn't shown up. I told her they are good about shipping, so she called and they have processed the entire order, with the exception of shipping the items. They are expected any day. I guess the Christmas rush has them hopping.

Karma man, Karma, one day something really good will happen,

One day I found a wallet at the "Y" it had $85 bucks in it, I was with my 3 yr old daughter, I probably had $20 to my name for the week, I turned it in,

I know the feeling, Phil. On three occasions this year, items I did not order have arrived at my door. Two of them were parts that did not fit my car.

One of them was a set of AFX tall, A-body spindles. I had to think long and hard before calling the vendor on those, but I did.

As a MFG, this has happened a few times over the years to us. I can't tell you how much it is appreciated when a guy is honest. You definitely did the right thing! Thanks!

I was most shocked that #1 it was such a large order and #2 they actually billed someone else. I mean, what are the chances? I did look at that hood tach for quite a while though. :ssst:

Anyway, I have done enough stupid things as a kid that I have been more aware about trying to "make-up" for things. I guess I am getting old!

Anyone else ever get a large item mistakenly sent to them (and wants to admit it :poke: )?

It's the new Teaser advertising technique that lets you be certain you really need those parts instead of senslessly buying them.

You could have told them to bill you for everything except the wheel houses and saved on the shipping .lol:rolleyes: and sent the wheelhouses back.

You did the right thing and realized that they weren't the right ones for your car because you hadn't paid for them. the right ones will have a whole different look and feel to them:twothumbs

Phil, I commend you on doing the right thing. Seems too many people now-a-days only want to do what benefits them no matter the costs to others. As a business owner who ships around the world, thank you for not keeping those parts. Merry Christmas
