I'm installing C4 rotors with C5 calipers on the front of a factory drum brake Nova (using the drum spindles). The car will see decent street/highway duty and its fair share of wet road conditions.

Is it necessary (or even desirable) to install backing plates like most factory discs use? Pros/Cons?

Thanks,
Dan

A very good question, Maybe Carl can give us a answer, I wonder if he has backing plates? Or anybody else, Thanks Steve

Consider that the factory backing plate for the stock disks has a raised flared cup that the backside of the hub and seal are shrouded by. This keeps some dirt and water spray from building up around or getting past the seal. I like that idea.

I haven't seen any info on some aftermarket shields. I'm thinking of fabbing some shields for my 69 Camaro since I've ordered the Touring Classics Hybrid kit.

Joe, I have the TC Hybrid kit as well and it's a REAL high quality, nice kit. If you end up fabbing shields or happen to locate some aftermarket units please let me know.
