I'm looking at some of these conversion kits to put on my 1970 TA that use LS1 big brakes off 98-02 F-Bodies. I wanted to know if the brakes on the LS1 04 GTO are the same? The rotors are the same, they look darn close from pics, & they are both made by PBR but I don't have a F-Body set to compare 1st hand... https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2007/12/gr_sad-1.gif
I know they beefed them up for the LS2 GTO's in 05-06 & are not the same. I think that is when they also beefed up the c5 to c6 ones as well...

Here's some specs for you on the 04 rotors, calipers. The main difference in the 05-06 GTO are larger diameter slightly thicker front rotors and associated caliper bracket. A slightly beefier front caliper. Rear rotor vented instead of solid.

The 05-06 GTO brakes means nothing to me. I currently have a set of 04 GTO brakes. I want to know if I can use those instead of going to the junk yard to get a set off a 98-02 F-Body car.

"I know they beefed them up for the LS2 GTO's in 05-06 & are not the same. I think that is when they also beefed up the c5 to c6 ones as well..." Well excuse me for just explaining the subtle difference in the 04 to 05-06 brakes.

The GTO calipers are close to the same as the Vette ones, possibly the F body ones, but use totally different mounting brackets(and different between 04 and 05/6 as mentioned). You can adapt the GTO calipers to Vette/F body brackets I believe to use more readily available kits.Soem guys sell the Vette brackets to do that. The rotors are also a metric pattern not 4.75 like F body or Vettes, so would not be a bolt on unless you redrilled the pattern.

I've got extra of both 04 and 05-06(to upgrade my 04 GTO). I don't think anyone else has even tried to post the specs to compare and why I tried to start the other thread for all of us to swap but got little input. Many 04 GTO guys make the upgrade to 05/6 components so they are available at pretty cheap prices as I am sure you know.

Edmiller that often posts on www.nastyz28.com (http://www.nastyz28.com) might can answer your questions. He does alot of custom kits too.

Thanks for the info!
I just got a used set of 98-02 F-body ones so when they come I will compare them to the 04 GTO brakes that way we all will know. I'm going to get the bracket kit & rotors from BRP Hotrods or Engineered Velocity.

Yea I think just buying the Vette Brackets for the GTO calipers will bolt to them and then use the kits that Engineered Velocity etc have. I just wish we could find a more offset rotor than the c5 type so they would fit other wheels easier.
