Looking to buy a crate engine for the 69' since i have no time to build one now. Im looking for a small block, since it will bolt right in to what i have without buying anything else. So far ive been looking at Cnc-motorsports 500hp 383 with forged internals for 6900+ shipping. Any other companies make a pretty bad ass engine for 7k?

Thanks

After all of the "stuff" it is gonna be hard to beat the ZZ383 (http://www.sdparts.com/product/12498772/ZZ383425425HP383SmallBlockCrateEnginewithAluminumH eads.aspx)

It says that it comes with 1.5 rockers, would it take 1.6 without swapping springs?

I'm not sure off the top of my head... but there is no magic to 1.6 rockers
I generally find they are more trouble than they are worth

If you think you want higher ratio rockers, you really need a bigger cam

Well for 120 i can get a bit more lift. Kinda like a lazy man mod. lol

... and more lift gets you?

Could i get the ZZ383 with higher compression pistons and a bigger cam as a crate?

I agree with Lowend. This is a great engine package and is well proven by GM. Mary Pozzi has this engine in her car and it runs very well.

A rocker swap on that engine is not going to gain you a lot. Flow stalls and swirl diminishes after about 0.550" lift with that head. More duration is needed if you want more top-end power. Personally, I'd just install it as-is and try it.

Yep - buy it - slap it in and down the line you can toss in a bigger cam if you want. Its a super-solid combo that you fire and forget

Could you find more power... sure... but you are already gonna be stretching that $7000 budget after buying all of the random crap that goes into an engine swap with this setup

GM does have a bigger cam for that ZZ383 and it works with the 1.5 rockers.

I sent you a PM, but this will beat any crate. Just wasn't a crate engine. I can get the pistons switched to lower compression and still be in your price range. The engine was built for drag racing, so the roller cam would have to be switched too. The horsepower would be around 550hp. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks

600 HP 383 Chevy Small Block For Sale Chevy 383 Small Block - Originally was built for my 1967 Camaro for Drag racing. The motor has never been raced and has 0 miles on it. The engine was installed in my car, but I changed my plans and decided to build a pro-touring 67 RS Camaro with an LSX motor.

The engine was built by Dave Middleton at Performance Clinic http://www.performanceclinic.net/
The engine dynoed at 612 hp @6800rpm and makes 523ft-lb torque at 5400rpm

The block is a race prepped Chevy block, sonic test cylinders, square block decks to specs, Ck10 Hone to diameter, hone w/torque plate.
4.030 Dome Top Ross Racing pistons
12.5:1 compression, but runs fine on race fuel. (See pump gas option)
3.75" stroke 4340 steel crank
6.00" Crower 4340 steel rods
Moroso 7qt kickout pan. fits most chassis except 1962-67 Chevy II
Dart Pro-1 aluminum heads with 230 cc intake port, 2.08" Manley Race Master Stainless Steel intake valves, 1.625" exhaust valves. Heads where bought bare and Performance Clinic ported the heads.
Titanium 10 degree valve spring retainers
Crower stainless roller rockers 1.6 ratio with 7/16 Studs
Competition Cams mechanical roller cam duration is 280/292 @.050 .660"/.630" Lift
Crower roller lifters
Powder Coated Edelbrock Super Victor Intake
Powder coated Dart Aluminum Valve Covers
MSD billet distributor
King Main & Rod Bearings
Speedpro Rings
ARP bolts
Stewart Water Pump
SFI FlywheelDyno sheet available, but scanner doesn't work with Microsoft Vista. So, I have to mail you a copy of the dyno sheets.

*pump gas option (Additional cost of $600 for Ross Dished pistons to lower the compression for pump gas, also if it is a street engine then it might be
wise to switch cams) The motor would then make around 550 Horsepower

Price is $6700 with High Compression and the engine is located in Dayton, Ohio

Shipping/freight is an additional cost, that would have to be determined by weight and distance.

Photos of the engine is available on my website. If you have any additional questions then respond via PM.
