Hey guys, I am just made an account on this site but I have browsed quite a bit in the past.

Below I have posted a rending that I did in photoshop of the car I want to build (already purchased the car). Just wondering what your thoughts were as it is a little different than the norm and not a usual direction for fox body owners.

In the original concept I was planning to use an 2003 cobra drivetrain (hence the "terminator" name) with a Kenne Belle on top, but now I am think more along the lines of this engine. http://karkraft.com/new_page_7.htm

I have built other highly modified mustangs and lightnings in the past but I am looking to go in more of a hot rod/pro touring type car with this project.

Let me know what you think of the idea. LOL, I,ve already changed my mind on the wheels.

This is what the car looks like stock.

love the wheels and the stance.
Personally I would get rid of the graphics...

Great car 4eyes rule I used to own an 86 GT with 03 cobra wheels...

I'd say I agree lose the graphics

Thanks guys.

I agree in that I think the graphics are kinda gudy (thats the time period) but thats what makes it reconizable as a pace car. It doesn't seem right tome to get rid of that element.

I dig it. The only thing I'd change is the graphic along the side. I'd put a spin on it. I'd make the fading horses (mustangs) larger and fill the whole window on the side of the car created by the orange stripes and dark rockers. (make it look like they're emerging from the rocker area.) and then put the original text over that.

Hmmm, with a pace car, I'd restore it/sell it vs. modding it. The value on them is increasing. I'd pick up a standard LX or GT and go nuts with it. But that's just my two cents.

I think the graphics make the car, without them it's just a bland 79 stang. I like it with the wheels like that.

4 years ago when I sold mine it wasn't worth much. Who knows now? I always liked the horses on the side and the striping but never cared much for the wording. Mine was repainted and the graphics never made it back on the car. That engine you linked to looks sweet. I would be tempted, however, to put dual turbos on a 302. Kinda tying into that most of the PCEs were turbo 4s though some were 302s. In fact I just gave away my original 2.3 turbo motor 2 weeks ago cause no one was interested in buying it.

I agree, I like the Nostalgia of the graffics. Keep'em!

Good to have another Mustang on the board, Welcome!

I'd do it in a coupe not a hatch though.

If the paint and graphics are in bad shape...maybe lose them. But I personally think it should remain original since it is an "official Pace car" model. Makes it more valuable later!!! I would not modify...sell it and get one you that you would not mind "modifying." ...Maybe drop it a little. I personally think the old rims are cool on that car.

I dig it. I've always thought the very early Fox bodies looked great. If the car is a real pace car, I too would sale it. I'd turn around and buy another and put the graphics or something very similar on the side. They really make the car I think. I like the wheels and the stance. Good idea and post pics when you get going on it. We like pictures

Keep the graphics, just add wheels and drop it. I think most would assume its a clone pace car after adding the wheels and dropping it. Telling them its a real pace car may add a little wow factor to it, such as "Why the hell would anybody do that to a pace car?" Sort of like the #s matching crowd at the car show who hate anything else. Enough rambling, I think the graphics should stay.

Personally I like it! I say go with your first rendering and dont change a thing. The wheels look killer on the car. Yeah its a pace car but more importantly its your car so do what you like to it. Go for it! What good is a pace car anyway if it cant keep up on the track?

I may be wrong but I don't think that the 79 Pace Cars will really ever hit big dollar status. So I wouldn't worry to much about pedigree in this case.
FYI..I am in my heart a Mustang guy and a former owner of a
69 Pace car:drool: :crying:

p.s. Maybe they used to say the same thing about those orange houndstouth buckets and interior?

true pace cars are ever hardly worth anymore than regular production versions. and if for some God-forsaken reason people start clamoring for '79 stangs, the aftermarket will step it up, just like they did for '69 camaro pace cars. check out this list of all the pace cars and tell me how many of them have ever become collectable:
http://www.indymotorspeedway.com/500pace.htm
I say cut up your '79 and do it the RIGHT way!

Well, here is a little update on the car. Changed some of my plans on the build, and did a new rendering. This is the rendering I did before starting the build.

This is the actual car now so far. Still need to do the 4.6 dohc motor and drivetrain for it, but I will enjoy it this summer as is and try to do the motor next winter.

The car is brilliant. Just like the rendering. Please save up and put 1500hp of twin turbo SBF or Procharged SBF in it to do it justice. A 4.6 mod just won't do it justice...

I second this.....I'd leave the graphics....it just adds 'something' to the car/build. I'm not a mustang fan but that photochop is appealing fosho!

Only thing I would consider changing is pulling the cell up a bit. It is a low angle so it is exaggerated a bit.

I think the graphics, colors, stance, and wheels are perfect. Turned out great!

don't forget to get the tailpipes back on there. i have to get mine done but it is going to be a pain with the wide tires and sumped tank, if you did raise the tank up then there is the option of running similar to the 03-04 cobra type:shrug:

Its funny how everyone was really against the idea of touching a 79 pace car or pro-touring it. Now everyone loves it after you finished it. You got the magic touch! It was nice to officially meet you at the Carlisle car show. ( I am the deaf kid)

I am gonna subscribe to this. I just start posting my car up, going to start pro touring it and pour money into it. It wont be done for a long awhile with the money I am making.

Feel free to check mine out.

Well, here are some updated pics from Mustang Week 2013. Car is quite done yet, but as you can see the new drivetrain is in.

Specs since last time I posted here are 03 cobra 4.6 down with 2.3 whipple, t56 tranny, 345 rear tires to name a few. And now on to the pics.

The brushed lip is way better. It lets you see the depth, from all angles, instead of hidding it with reflection of the dark centers like the polished does. Polished is good for depth to but not from most angles.
