As posted in the Western States forum:

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, get ready for the farewell to 2007 by joining us for the Dec. 16 Cruise the Crest holiday superfest.

As before we will be meeting at the Shell station at the Angeles Crest Highway exit off the 210 freeway at 6:30am. The 27-mile winding-road drive is a thrill (if you want it to be,) as are the scenic views and the great food at Newcomb's Ranch. Bring any car you want. Heck, don't bring a car at all and hitch a ride with one of the others. I'll likley have an empty passenger seat. If someone wants to call shotgun.....

Come one, come all, in mini-vans, caravans, taco wagons, tow trucks, trash trucks, sleighs, or corner-burners. We don't discriminate.

I'll have to come up and join in on one of these drives after my car is back on the road. That should happen in the next month, so keep us posted on future drives.

We should check weather on Friday, December 15. I took the dogs up the Crest this morning. I realize that we've just had a storm through, but the road was icy in patches (some REALLY big patches) from La Canada to Mount Wilson, and was solid snow/ice/frost (i.e., white) from Mount Wilson to Charlton Flats where I walk the dogs (about 2 miles shy of Newcomb's Ranch). It was significantly melted about an hour and a half later when we headed back down, but an early morning run might be problematical depending on weather.

That said, the dogs and I had a great time walking in 1"-2" of snow. It was COLD, but beautiful.

Agreed. With luck I can make a recon drive Friday afternoon. We can make a judgement call early Friday evening.

Just bring your cars folks. There is no obligation to buy me presents. Really.

Sounds like fun. The dates are off though. Is it tomorrow, or sunday? I should be able to make it either day, just want to be sure.

How are the dates off?

Past cruises have been on Sunday's. This Sunday is the 16th...

Sorry, in Mkelcy's post he said we should check the weather on "Friday, the 15th". Then Carl said,he would do a recon cruise on Fri., and we could decide on Fri. night. So, I was thinking the run would be on the next day.
Anyway, Sunday is better for me anyway, so, barring any unforseen drama, I'll see you guys Sunday morning. ( BURRRRR, I gotta tape up my air vents)

Well, there's road ice for about three miles starting at the Big Tujunga Canyon turnoff. There is still some water runoff, and at the time we would be going that too would be ice. There's also a bunch of gravel mixed in. I recommend we not make the run.

I'm up for another venue. PCH for breakfast?

I'm probably down for a PCH breakfast. What time?

So, who's interested?

I'm going. For those that want to go we can meet at the Jack-in-the-Box in Glendale off the 134 at Pacific. Exit the 134 at Pacific, turn north. It's 200 yards on the LH side. 805 N Pacific Ave. 7:00 am.

Two known options on PCH to eat, different ends of the spectrum:

1) Jack-in-the-Box. 23017 PCH, Malibu. About 2 miles south of Las Virgenes Canyon Rd. Pros: Closer, easy-view parking, $5 to eat. Cons: It's Jack-in-the-Box.

2) Paradise Cove Cafe. 28128 PCH, Malibu. Pros: Great food and atmosphere, location location location. Cons: Farther (about 40 miles), $12-15 total to eat. I think it may be a couple of bucks to park as well.

My preferance? Paradise. It's going to be a superb morning to drive so I'd like to take advantage of it before the holiday time squeeze. Take one hour to get there, 1-1/2 hours to eat and BS, one hour back, and we're back in Glendale by 10:30 - 11:00am.

IF (and that's a substantial IF - there's no engine or transmission in my car as I write this) I get the car done, I'll be there. Otherwise it'll be dogs up in the Angeles National Forest tomorrow morning.

I'm interested. Played with adjusting my windows last weekend and the passenger leaks wind noise like whoa so I'd like to fix that before I go.

Darned you western pro-tourers with your ideal weather!!!! Meanwhile its snowing and sleeting outside my window... not very agreeable with the RWD torque :(

Wishing I could go....

I'm down for Paradise Cove... I'm coming from the Westside, so what time to meet at the restaurant?

Let's say 8:00am. It should take us about an hour from Glendale with the above route. I called this morning and the girl said that at this time of year it's pretty slow that early in the morning.

Chad, that's what the heater and stereo are for! It should be a super nice ride along PCH tomorrow.

Mike, good luck gettin' er done. The ice is from Big Tujunga turnoff to Charlton. After that it's fine. The sunny spots are good to go, but the all-day shade sections look a bit hairy for us.

You mean people actually STAY in Ohio in the winter? ;-)

I was up there this morning and saw exactly what you described. One icy turn just a bit past Switzers (Lower Ladybug), then good to Upper Big Tujunga (aka Nine Mile), then icy and REALLY dirty the rest of the way.

As for me tomorrow, it's not looking good - still need to align the bellhousing and that's always a pain, plus a bit of wiring, and so on and so on. But I'll keep on going and see where I am.

7:00 in Glendale, 8:00 @ the Paradise Cove.
