hows it goin? i'm new to the forum, but heres a little info about my car.

350ci chevy
- 274 duration cam
- ceramic headders
- 2.02 heads (i ported and polished them) with new springs and stainless valves.
-holley air-gap intake
-750 cfm carb.

3.73 gears, posi, 4 speed muncie M-20 with a steel mid-plate and other goodies......

nothin too fancy cause i'm workin to pay off any car mods...it runs a 13.65 in the quarter, again not the fastest car ever but not to bad for a 4100lb fat chick...

so heres the question, i'm lookin to get some wheels and tires and i'm stuck between polished Z06 wheels and polished Salt Flat Specials. I'm wondering what you guys think and whether or not these deals on eBay are legit...

i know i should run about 4 3/4"-5" of backspacing, does anyone know the offset of the Z06 wheels, it says 56mm but that seems a little goofy. thanks again for reading this and any help would be appreciated.

The Z06 wheels have around 7.25" backspace so they're not going to be a bolt-on. Better add a few hundred extra for some billet adapters.

First off, welcome to the board. Nice to add another body type to the mix. Your "fat chick" is welcome here.

indeed you will need adapters. So the salt flat Specials may be the way to go.

you know what they say about fat chicks, they are fun to ride until your friends find out. :rotfl: :rotfl:

the adapters are most likely something you'll have to have made at your local machine shop for your application. Hence the high price tag.

Gonzalez Enterprises makes some nice adapters. His contact info is Raul Gonzalez 10765 Bennet Ave. Fontana CA 92337 (909)376-8011. I thought he was getting 140/set for any size up to 3".

H&R springs also make wheel adapters..........I think I saw Edelbrock was also getting into that market. :hmm:

IMO the Salt Flats look better anyways!

I'm probably biased but I agree with ssx.

I'm kinda partial to the salt flats ,trying to figure out whether or not if they would look good on my 84 CL monte/ss clone.SLP

Alright, one more question. i can get a good deal on some wheels but they might be a little to wide for me. They fronts are 17" X 9.5" with 275 tires with 5.5inches of backspacing. the rear wheels and tires are 17 X 11 with 315's with 6.5 inches of backspacing....this seems a little big without a mini tub and tihs but would it work without much rubbing? thanks.

Sigh. I had a huge response typed out and I clicked the wrong button and lost it.

The only real way to know if a given wheel will fit your car is to measure your car.. the tolerances these cars were made to were high and 30+ years of use have changed them even more. I'm sure you've seen the Pro-touring.com Wheel Fitment Database; if not it's Here (https://www.pro-touring.com/tech/wheels/Wheel_Survey.htm) - but it's only a guideline to say what has fit for others, again your car will differ from theirs, you really need to measure and find out what size your car can take.

I do think 17x11 probably won't fit without some major modifications to the body/chassis.. but take a tape measure to it, find out for sure.

The front combo should work fine. The rear wheels have a smidgen too much backspace but you can fine-tune it with thin spacers.(6.25-6.375" is probably what you will end up with) If your 71 body is square on the frame, the rear combo can work. Lots of 68-72 Chevelles/El Caminos are starting to run these sizes and making them work.

In this configuration, do the guys roll the fender lips for more clearance? That seems like a lot of tire, but might not be too far off. I am looking at a 68 Chevelle right now, and am also wondering about how much meat I can use without a tub deal (just went through that with the Camaro, it was a lot of work).

Rolling the lips might be an option but the two cars I've seen with these wheel & tire combos didn't have to do it. As I mentioned before, 68-72 A-bodies have a lot of room inside their fenders.

Mine are all rolled but I actually tuck the tire into the well vs. having it sit just over it like most I have seen. I am going to run 285's next time around, just not enough room for a vehicle that will see a road course.

What backspacing are you running on your rear wheels,Dennis?
