Hi everyone,
Just wanted to get people's opinions on side-exit exhaust systems. I'm mainly concerned with sound levels and tone of the system.
I couldn't be happier with the exhaust system that is currently on the supercharged LSx motor in my '67 Camaro. It consists of a set of Stainless Works 1 3/4" headers that feed into an x-pipe then into Flowmaster Hushpower II mufflers and then they go over the axle and drop out in the factory location. The system is all stainless steel, and it looks and sounds awesome.
Problem is that I just swapped out the Wayne Due C5 front subframe that was in the car with a replacement frame from Art Morrison. The Morrison frame has exhaust cut-out tubes as part of the transmission crossmember. The idea is to allow the pipes to tuck up and out of the way for better ground clearance.
The problem with this is that is really limits what I can do with my exhaust (since it makes the pipes run a certain way) My rear suspension is Hotrods to Hell's truckarm system which doesn't allow for much room to run the exhaust out the back, but it can be done. With this new frame it might be possible to keep the exhaust the way it was, but it will take some tight bends to get it to fit right.
So I guess my question is this: how much louder will my exhaust be if I eliminated the x-pipe and turned it into a side exit exhaust kind of like the car pictured below. This is assuming I kept the same tubing diameter and mufflers. I think it could look cool, but am worried about excessive resonance and losing that x-pipe scream in has. I've never had a car without any kind of crossover (or side-exit exhaust), so I'm looking for some info.
