I've got my LS1 mounted in my El Camino with mounts I've made myself out of quarter-inch steel plate. Moved on to working on the transmission mount now.

It looks like my stock TH350 crossmember will work for mounting the T56, with one exception: the mount is about 4 1/8 inches too low (giant pic) (http://www.derekf.com/images/07120110.jpg).

Is this a case where it'd be better to make a new crossmember, or is there some way to make a spacer that'd hold up to use?

How in the world did you end up with that much difference? That means your pinion angle may need serious adjustment. Are you sure you can't lower the engine any?

As for your direct question, I would try to make a new one simply because it will look better.

I agree with the above, there's something really wrong with the engine placement or ? if that crossmember is 4" off in height.
