I tend to agree with the article as well, not because ive researched it heavily but it just seems to make sense. And I appreciate the reply Astroracer. The problem Im having is im getting differing opinions. I talked with Stans Headers in Auburn Wa. because they are close to me and have the ability to do mandrel bends. They were telling me H pipe was better for performance. So Ive got enough info to be confused now. The car is goiong to see 85% street use 15% track. So what to do? Peak hp and torque is good but im wondering how it changes through the rpm range? Does one benefit in some parts of the rpm vs the other? is there marketing spin for selling purposes? Does Stans say this because they dont want the additional headache? it seems that it would be more difficult to bend up custom exhaust with an x pipe? What gives? Please more thoughts, opinions would be appreciated.

I've always heard that the X-pipe is superior to the H-pipe in power throughout the whole RPM range. Remember, H-pipes came out first, then X-pipes. They figured out a new trick (H)...then perfected it (X). Now, count the number of exhaust companies making H-pipe kits vs. X-pipe kits, excluding Jegs and Summits house brands.........................Go with the X-pipe.

H pipes may not offer any performance increase like an X pipe, but they do make the exhaust less aggressive sounding because they allow the human ear to hear it at roughly twice the frequency. It's more or less the same reason single exhaust seems quieter.

I have an 3" oval x on my car and picked up about 1.5 tenths in the quater and 1 mph over the old 2.5" non cross-over. Also the x pipe with the spintech mufflers I have sounds wicked. x-pipes sound different(in a good way). My engine is making about 475hp at the fly.

I also have the 3" oval tubing exhaust with x-pipe and Spintech mufflers. It sounds so much better than the Flowmaster 2.5" h-pipe, single cross flow system that it replaced.

prefer X- pipes. X pipes will make hp thru out the entire powerband

The 2 will sound different, and I'd base my decision on what you like better. The x-pipe should make a little more power, but it should be minimal. The x-pipe will definitely make the exhaust system quieter, which is usually a good thing.

I personally love the sound of my LSx motor breathing through it's 1 3/4" headers and x-pipe.

I love x pipes cause it frees up so much room underneath...

note:::: do not play all three videos above at the same time if you have cats in the house!

My car with a H pipe always ran a little faster open headers , even with those resonating 2 chamber Flowmasters. With my Dr. Gas X system the can ran identical times open headers and no pipes on the car to X pipe, mufflers, tailpipes. And it's real quiet. Nothing like smoking that open header mini tubbed guy with a nice quiet car with tailpipes and stock chassis:)

I like it when you have all three videos playing at once!!:firefire:
