Need some opinions here. I want an overdrive in my car and will most likely change or upgrade during this summer coming up, after I get my car painted. Right now I have a 475hp 388 small block chevy with a th350 (just rebuilt this year with a new custom made neal chance 3000 conveter) and bop 10-bolt rear with 3.55 gears, rebuilt about 2 years ago and 285/40-17 tires. I love the way this car drives around town, instant response, will flash to about 3500 and brake the tires loose, can cruise at 2800 on the back roads with no problem. I can launch the car, bang every gear and shifts instantly. As soon as I get it on the highway though, I hate it, motor spins at 3500 rpms to go 70mph:hand: . I drag race my car a few times a year, but I'm going to try autocross too which I know I'll like and even maybe a road course like limerock, also I like to drive my car everywhere. I drive the car hard so here are my options,

1. Gear vendors unit (should work, would put my cruise rpm at 2800 which is good with my converter, unit should fit with my x-pipe, just cost alot for what I'm getting.)

2. 200r4 (seems like an easy swap, has a better overdrive than the g.v. but I herd these aren't that strong and I would need to run a lock -up converter with the stall I would need.)

3. Stick ( for the price and time and having to cut the floor to put in a 4l60 or 80 and wire every thing up I think I'm better with the stick because it would be more fun. I could go with a tko or richmond-6 speed. I also thought sticks are hard on the rear end for drag racing, but I don't drag all the time.)

So what do you guys think? Don't be afraid to give me your opinions, real world facts or even insult me I don't care just need some help sorting this out. I like to go wiht the best bang for the buck but I don't want to regret a bad decision later down the road.

From what I've read on this site I will probably go with a 4L60 or 65 and use the Shrifter paddle shifter and take full advantage of the computer controlled flexibility that you can get with one of these electronic transmissions. I have a friend that runs his own trans shop, he recommends against a 200r4 unless you will just be cruising around with it, it is a weak transmission.

The 4L60 is the later 700r4. The 4L60e is the electronically controlled version.

do you plan to build the 200r4 if so it would be great

cheap wise though you could get a t56 from a junk camaro gto firebird etc and just drop it in

I think I'm going to hold out on the tranny situation. Painting my car is going to be a little more than I thought and I'm going to be getting racing seats. I guess i'll just drive slow on the highway for now. Thanks for the ideas guys.
