My brother in law has one that I've driven on numerous occasions. I think it's a pretty good all around car, it handles very well but it seems really down on power (his is an auto coupe). He complains about the harsh ride, and while it's pretty stiff it doesn't bother me.

Always thought the G35 looked better.

My wife drives an 04 track model as her dd and it's been bullet proof for two years now. It's down on torque for my liking, but the handling and braking is insane for a stock car. Don't get an 06 as they have had major engine issues. It's the only year with a different oil control system. 2007s have a whole new engine. Good luck.

I have a 05 touring and love it the g35 has a nicer ride but the z has a sporter feel and the g weights more then the z so the z is a bit quicker

IMO both are great looking cars and should be pretty darn fun as daily drivers. Watch out for trunk space on the Z. I've heard it's so tight that there is a certain way to get 2 golf bags in the trunk. It may or may not be a big deal for you, but....

I have an 06 as a DD. Be careful of the 06s. Mine and MANY others are or have experience massive oil consumption. I would lose 1 qt per 1000 miles. Nissan just replace my engine about 500 miles ago but it looks like it's still losing oil. The 03-05s are great and the 07s seem to be fine

Had two Z31 300ZXs and I'll tell you what a change over the years. Took out the Nismo model for a spin and it was awesome! Will agree that it needs some more torque but there are ways of fixin that nicely.
+1 on avoiding the 06s.

I've only been in one as a passenger, so I can share my experience from that seat.

The first thing I noticed about the car is the "bathtub" seating position. I'm not tall, but the doors were very high for my liking, and I felt a bit claustophobic inside. The seating position is definitely reclined, which is also not what I am used to. Some people love this low-slung position though.

As a driver, I love a stiff suspension, which is exactly what this car offers. However, as a passenger it got a little tiresome. But, it is a daily DRIVER, so who cares what the passenger thinks.

The trunk space is limited, so you wont be much help on your buddy's moving day with this car. The stiffener that runs right through the cargo area sure indicates this car's purpose is not cargo space.

As for the powertrain, it is a bit soft down low (as everyone else has said), but really begins to wind up around 3500rpm. The back end seems to plant really well during low-speed accelerations (ie freeway onramps)

Overall, my coworker loves the car. His biggest complaint is the reeeaaallly short first gear.

Funny you should mention that. My boss has an '06 350z. His only complaint is the gas consumption. He drives 75 miles 1 way to work and the recommened fuel octane is 91 or greater, according to him. He has a Nissan Maxima also, not sure of the year, but that vehicle had engine trouble as well and the engine to be replaced.
GOOD LUCK!!!
