View Full Version : Front Suspension - Coilovers or Hotchkis w/Gas Shock

I am wondering if a coilover setup OR a stiff spring with a good gas shock is better. 1971 Camaro BTW.

I have a iron headed big block, steel cowl hood, oversized radiator, etc, so I have a heavy front end. The stock small block springs are squishy at best and definitely don't feel safe at speed on an uneven surface.

I am trying to get this money pit wrapped up without completely making my debit card hang itself.

A marginal increase in performance is not worth a large increase in price to me.

I want bang for the buck! So coilovers or a shock/spring combo? Any input on the # spring rate I should use?

I wouldn't be adjusting the coilovers once I got ride height dialed in - I would leave it at the appropriate height - no racing in my future.

I'd look at Casanova's site - the spring height adjusters.

No reason to redline your debit card buyng high quality coilovers when the Nascar boys have figured a bunch of this stuff out for cheap.
