Twist Machine brought out a boothful of stuff, and not just the Devious Camaro. Steve Chryssos tells us about their ProStyle line of accessories, as well as some insight into their new MuscleDrive torque converter, which incorporates a heavy-duty lock-up "clutch" for Pro-Touring applications... it's cool...

After Pigeon Forge next year, that Shrifter and Pro-Torque convertor will be the first two items on my list. Good interview. Steve was in "full spike" for that one.

Every time I hear Steevo talk about his Shrifter it makes me think more and more about selling my never used Richmond 6 speed. I do LOVE a stick but some day hope to drive the piss out of my car and run the power tour. Being stuck in L.A. traffic and on a long haul I think I would enjoy driving it more with an automatic. I agree with Bret when he said something like the differences between an auto and a stick are becoming less and less all the time.
We now return you to your previous topic.

Ya know, I'm kinda feeling the same way. I love, love, love the idea of rowing through the gearbox at Thunderhill or Laguna Seca. But the thought of driving the car through the Bay Area to get there.....yech!
My only resevation about it is the idea of having an auto lever sitting on the floor instead of a 5sp or 6sp shifter.

Same here. I'm in SF so traffic is always bad and the hills are never ending. I'm definitely going auto. The driving experience is different than driving a manual but they are easier and faster in every way.
Look at the floor shifter on Devious. A lot nicer than a leather boot IMO!

My powerstroke is an auto, I shattered the first one, now I have an ATS Stage 3 racing Auto, it shifts like a manual w/o a clutch or a pause between gears, bang bang bang! Good built auto's kill sticks! My converter is locked up just like a manual would be, but again, ABSOLUTELY NO PAUSE WHILE BANGING GEARS! If I had a cool car I would have the shrifter without a doubt!
Now back to rage against the manual, hosted by Steve'O!:help:

You know why that is, True? Because nobody makes a really kick ass looking automatic shifter. Seriously...comb through a Jegs or a Summit catalog and all Hurst or B&M offers is what they were offering 20 years ago. These big boxy/goudy looking things. The only one that comes close to appealing to me is the TCI Outlaw part no. TCI-616331 in Summit. Unfortunately...they don't make it for a 4L60E. In fact there aren't many out there for that transmission to begin with.

tony it will work for the 4l60e, however you will not manually be able to put it in first with the shifter, however that is not an issue when you have the paddle shifter, as you would put it in overdrive and paddle away from there.

That's not a bad idea, Jake. Hell, I plan to be in "drive" most of the time anyway.
I'm curious if you could modify the shifter with another gate from a similar TCI shifter? Hmmm.....

Turns out I'm wrong on that TCI Outlaw Shifter. They do make them for 4 speed automatics. If anyone is interested the part number is TCI-616331 and the gate plate you'll need to adapt the pattern is TCI-618014. This is the one I'm going with. I love it.

I have a B&M mega shifter it's pistol grip, with a carbon fiber housing. It also holds 2 gauges. I like it.https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2007/11/1113071973-1.jpg?1193083268 (http://www.fquick.com/garages/viewgallery.php?action=viewimg&id=71974)e it.

I started a floor shifter thread a few months ago and Frank from Prodigy put a photo up. I liked it so I got it from summit. It's designed for a 700r4 so we had to make it work....

I think this is the link.... B&M part # BMM-81091 The bracket on the tranny pan has to be cut and extended so the bolt pattern works. I also had to trim the housing 3/4 inch because of the carpet.

Autos are nice, I miss my T400. But, I wish someone would come out with a manumatic overdrive auto setup that will hold 1000+ hp for anywhere near the price of a stick, they are double. That is why I was literally forced to go stick.
Steve, new invention!!

a 4l80 will hold your power all day, you will never dead hook with your chassis, get over it, and get a hughes 700hp rated 4l80e for 2k, steves tq convertor and paddleshifter for another 2k and be done.

Man what a week. Those of you who placed orders right before or at the start of SEMA, your orders have shipped. For everyone else, we are backordered two weeks. On, like, EVERYTHING. I HATE backorders, but they tell me it's a good problem to have. Better than no orders, I suppose. Here we go:
V8TV: I've been in this industry for almost 20 years and I can name the journalists with real talent and vision on one hand. Kevin Oeste is one of them. While most of the other journalists were standing in line to kiss Vic Edelbrock's ass, people like Kevin, and his better half Kelle, were off scouring the SEMA show for REAL news. The result is a series of video interviews available only on v8tvshow.com. If you haven't checked it out--do it now. For example, I can't tell you how many journalists passed by II Much without recognizing the importance of this car or the immeasurable talent of John Parsons. Same goes for Kenny Davis J2 Speed, and others. The big name builders deserve all of the credit and attention that they receive, but the real news is that our hobby possesses smaller shops and talented individuals that can step up to the plate and run with the big doggies. Kevin Oeste and a few others get it. I hope the rest of the media will jump on board.
THE HAIR: My do acts like a heat sink to keep my wacked out brain from frying.
A LEBANESE BROTHER NAMED SERJ: Uhh...no. My brother is a cardiovascular surgeon in Atlanta. Yes we are greek.
THE NEW SHIFTER STICK: Our ProStyle Shifter sticks are essentially universal. The sticks accomodate any shifter with .875"-.900" bolt spacing which covers almost all applications including old school four speeds and modern overdrive units. 3/8", 8mm, and 10mm socket head cap screws are included to suit The non reach adjustable version is for "competition style" shifters where the stubs are U shaped thereby surrounding the stick on three sides. This design precludes the use of our reach adjustable feature. If you have a standard "flat" shifter stub, go with our reach adjustable style. You won't be disappointed. We ran off seven or eight pieces before SEMA. If you're hot for one ASAP, give us a call. Otherwise, we will add you to the wait list later on. Look for a formal press release soon.
TRADITIONAL MANUAL vs. MANUMATIC: There are benefits and detriments to both systems. And the cost argument can be manipulated in either direction. The important thing is that hot rodders now have comparable choices. Both platforms are supported by years of development and field testing.

Thanks, Steve.
I love my autogear M-22 and was considering a 5 or 6-speed at some point. You now have another convert when time and finances align. However, my incremental will probably be one of those shrifter sticks.
Sure is a great time for us gearheads!

Hey Steve, P.M. me on a price for that shifter for the 6 speed, I could maybe use something billet before spring...
Hotrdbldr, I did a ton of research on trans, some cars have to have a 6 speed to do more everything well. To be able to run the quarter mile, road course, and the Maxton mile my only option was a 5 or 6 speed. For a 4l80 to run the Maxton in a pretty fast car, it would have to spend about 15-20 seconds in 4th gear and I was assured by every trans builder, even FLP, that it would most likely blow up, even with the billet parts. Plus a quality built 4l80 for serious power is $5000 not including an upgrade converter from steve. That is too rich for my poor blood.
Someone should come out with an in the car adjustable electric/hydraulic slipper clutch for street/race cars with a manual trans!! I have a pretty good idea how to make it, I just don't have the means.
