Im really curious how you guys know your car is the one you really want. Im asking because when ever im by a 68 camaro I melt, I cant explain the feeling I get but its a great one, I dont get the same with my GTO. I dont know if the GTO is the car I seek but rather a 68 camaro. I dont know what it is about them i just cant help it! Do any of you get the same possibly feelings? YES i know its wierd but i was curious.

man i know what you mean.I thought the only vehicle for me was a 1955 chevy big window pickup.after I searched high and low I found one and restored it.it turned out real nice but after I drovr it about a year didnt think it was all that.ended up selling it to get my newest sickness a 69 camaro.I dont know for me I enjoy finding the car or truck and then fixing it up the way I want it.kind of keeps my mind active.thinking about supensions and drivetrains andblah, blah, blah.I do have a 70 pickup ive managed to hold on to for 20 years.my daily driver.

Not even an 05' Viper can take the place of my 69' Camaro. Thats how i know thats the car for me.

when us young boys were lusting after porsches and ferraris hanging up on our bedroom walls, i had to have a duster. the only other car that ever came close was a pantera. every time i see a pantera or duster my head spins like it is on a swivel, i look when i should be focusing elsewhere. no fail! it sounds to me like you have second best right now! dont know the answer to your dilemma but it sounds like you need a 68 camaro. Question, is the GTO finished? Could be a frustration thing.

But if it's nothing to do with that, then you need a Camaro.

amcmike: No the GTO isnt finished, i think that might be my problem. maybe.. still not sure. I dont want to put a bunch of money into the GTO and later down the road deside i want a camaro.. I would love to just stick the GTO in storage and get a camaro that runs and drives and just wait untill later. dunno tho

I'll tell you where I was. I had a hankering for a particular car since I was no taller than it's trunk lid (no exaggeration).

When I was still in college I came across a different make, bought it, and enjoyed for a number of years. It needed a bit of work and I was relocated, so it sat in storage. It was indoors so the body held up well, but mechanically the brakes went bad, it started leaking fluids etc.

I pulled it out of storage and hauled it across several states with the intention of restoring it. I had even stored up a bunch of parts of the years. Before I began I started to assess the effort. With a new child I realized it would take a lot more time than I had. I also added it up and even with all the parts I accumulated there was a lot of cost. I had also thought how nice it would be to have a convertible. I weighed it all and realized even with all the sentimental value if it wasn't my dream car I might not be happy even once it was finished. It was a tough decision but I sold it and began to search for the original car of my dreams.

The car I bought was a plain jane version (conv. of course) but the body was in good condition, so I have spent my time upgrading the mechanicals. This has allowed me to spend the money over a longer period (rather than dumping in a bunch for a total restore all at once) while still driving the car in the summers. Sure I miss my college car from time to time, but all it takes is a trip to the garage and a twist of a key to put that memory in the back of my mind.

I think that you always want what you don't have. my first car was an early 2nd gen Camaro and always wanted a 1st gen, Now that I have a 1st gen, I want to build another 2nd gen.

I was 3 years old when I met the (model/year) car I have. My Uncle (then Aunt's boyfriend) would come pick her up in it. It was as old as me. I remember staring directly at the spoiler on it (it was at eye height for little me). When I was older he would take me for rides. I loved it. My Aunt drove it into a swamp (little too much power for her) which ruined the body (rust infested). He still married her too. When he lit up the tires, smoke would pour in from the trunk up through the rear package tray.

His was a hardtop, but having a rust free convertible version, I am quite happy. I still think of my first car from time to time, but as for which one I want, it's in my garage now - no question.

The only thing better would be to have his restored original.

The driver don't pick the car, the car picks the driver (http://www.videodetective.com/titledetails.aspx?publishedid=973075) :smoke:

I think it is hard to point to any one thing, but to me it all seems so emotional. Early interaction seems to be key with everyone I know. I had a 76LT and a 77Z28 in high school. When I went and test drove the 77Z28 I have now, it was an immediate 'connection' if you will. Like no time had passed. I had to have it. Why my 1st car was a Camaro and not something else I do not know. Dumb luck perhaps.

I got the 67 because I wanted a first gen. I sure hope I like it as much as my 2nd gens. If you asked today, I'd sell the 67 before the 77. Maybe my mind will change when the 67 is done.

"Wanting is a MUCH greater joy than HAVING"!

This why you "melt" when you are near a 68 Camaro that you want and do not feel much passion for the 67 GTO you have! Welcome to the world of being a man. Women, cars, boats, houses and money. We always want what what someone else has.

How may times have your REALLY wanted something for a week or less, got the item and then 2 weeks later that item that was SO important is sitting in the closet/garage gathering dust? Admit, we have ALL done that one!

My rule of thumb is "IF" I REALLY want something badly and still want that same item passionately for 6 months or more, I make a decision that I really do want the item/thing and figure out a way to get it. In most cases I find that passion of "me gotta have" does NOT last for 6 months and therefore I really did not want it in the first place therefore I do not get the item and am usually MUCH better off out waiting my desires.

For me it is easy to place anything in one of three categories. They are things I need, things I like and things I want. The only difference between things I like and things I want is simple, things I want are just things I like that I make an effort to acquire.

I know its confusing however an example would the that I always "liked" Heather Locklear however I never made and effort to "meat/acquire" her so obviously I really did not want her! Like I had a sheit's chance in hell anyway!

So much for Philosphy 101!

Matt!

Here's a lesson I learned over the years that was told to me time and time again until I experienced it enough times to really understand what it meant!

"The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence!"

Building a car is much like being married. After a while all those mods that you did on the car don't seem so cool and become kind of ho hum. Ya have to figure out ways to make it fresh. Always remember there was a reason that the car/woman attracted you. Try and remember that and keep it fresh with both your cars and your women!

I will say that I think building a car is a better choice than marriage! If you decide to get rid of a car it'll be WAAAYYY less expensive than a woman! LOL!

Why not finish the GTO then find someone with a 68 to hang with and swap cars once in a while to cure the lust or see if thats what you really want. Might just end up with a good friend and have a great time playing with your cars! I've driven a bunch of buddys cars, even on tracks and I let them drive mine. As a matter of fact I drove a very nice 450+ RWHP 92 Mustang GT last night over to my shop where we did a pedal upgrade on it. First time I'd driven a supercharged car.

something about the body lines and the way everything flows, nice and sleek, smaller, they just look like more of a sporty muscle car. and something that you would track. the GTO to me seems like it would just be a weekend warrior all the way to the gas station and back. here are 2 photoshops i did, one of a GTO and one of a 68 camaro (both cars are members cars)

so what would you think about it if, it had a schwartz chassis under it??

another thing is i want to do like a roll cage and what not and i think it would look funny in the GTO and look out of place. maybe im trippin out, i also want to use a nice design racing seat (something like in penny) but again i think it would look out of place..

I used to have a thing for 68 Camaro's myself.
I own a 78 Camaro all protour'd out. LS1, Hotchkis, C5 brakes, etc.

Personally, the only car I seek presently that blows my mind
is the 5th gen Camaro. Vette's do nothing for me, around
Chicago they're a dime a dozen....nothing sets them out anymore.

1st gens don't anymore either. Too many of them out there.
I want something REALLY unique and rare.

The way I see it, is if you own a car and it doesn't piss you off for long periods no matter what it does to you, then it is the car for you.

My 98 TA will piss me off and I'll just buy the parts to make it better. My 79 TA would piss me off and I would quit working on it for weeks. Then grudgingly buy what it needed and the cycle would start all over. That's when I realized I just wasn't into it as much and it was time to sell it.
