Hello all,
Just looking for some opinions, suggestions, or experience with either going with a new overdrive trans, or a Gear-Vendors overdrive add-on. I currently have a TCI TH400, and a 4:56 12 bolt rear. The add-on looks pretty interesting because of the strength, and "gear splitting" feature that would make it a 6 speed auto. A paddle-shifted manual/auto might have some grin factor. Anyone have any experience with this unit? Is this not a good idea? Any suggestions for a reputable overdrive trans vendor? The motor is potent, so strength is a factor.
Thanks in advance

I am running a Gear Vendors in my chevelle and it's great to have the overdrive and gear splitting. After checking other option's this was the best bang for the buck for me as the turbo 400 was in the car to start with and it needed a new driveshaft .

IMHO once you build up a TH400 and then add a GV overdrive, you are within striking distance of a built 4L80E package, then the 80E blows everything else away with its programmability and OD. Nothing compares to having a tranny that acts like a Grandma car around town then, at a throttle position you choose, completely shifts personality to a full-on drag package. Turn around and drive it home, it's back to normal.

Paddle-shift ready as well.

Hughes built my 80E, and I'd never go back to a non-E tranny.

You can drive to the track, change programs in 30sec. to a track setup (shift points, line pressures per gear, etc.), then switch back when done.

Like Delta said, if you need a trans, and overdrive, a 4l80. If you already have a good 400, a Gear Vendors unit is the ticket. I've installed one, the guy loves it.
