the BS is arguable. I'd say the best results would have you measure it out. I've seen cars with 5 3/4" BS and it sits real close to the quarter lip. They also sit high in the back.
If it were me,I like them to sit low so I would go 6" backspace and do whatever I could to make em fit.
Fronts I would go 5 1/2 back space for 17x9 1/2"
Measure please

I have a 1970 Firebird and decided to move down from my goal of 315s on 11 inch rims in the rear to 285s on 10 inch rims -- it was just too tight to risk the bigger wheel in my opinion. Backspacing is 5 1/2 inches on Budnik Tillers with a Ford 9 inch. Areas that I kept a close eye on while measuring included the shocks and the CalTracs in addition to the wheel wells. I made sure that everything had plenty of room to move. The Firebird wheel wells are more rounded too which means there is less risk of rubbing so measurement would be key.

I pounded in the seatbelt retractor bump which protrudes into the inside of wheel well. That'll get you a little more room.

Since the firebirds wheel well is more rounded it can generally fit a bigger tire and rim combo, I am running 17x11 with 6"bs with no prob on my 73 bird. Check the hotchkis camaro that they built for a better backspacing info, I think that it is running 17x11's and 315's but am not sure on the bs.

It is running the 17x11's w/ 5.75" b.s. and 315's out back. It was a tight fit. It may not fit on every car. There's too many differences. Measuring is the only way to find the right fit.
