until I read thru ALL the posts in this section. Alright I have a '73 Nova power disc/drum. When I logged on tonite all I wanted to ask was what master cylinder should I use to go from power brakes on my car to a manual brake setup leaving everything else stock? I was looking at a mastercylinder for a '70 camaro with manual disc/drum, would that one work? It has a deep pushrod hole and 1"bore. Also where do I get a pedal pushrod? I was planning on junking the combo valve and running and adjustable proportioning valve on the rears.

Now for new questions that have risen. I also have a rear disc setup from a '79 ws6. Unfortunatley the only thing really usable from my salvage special is the brackets, the rotors are shot and obviously I would want new calipers and pads. So okay $300.00 or so to get that up and working. (I work at napa) Then I found the C4 swap for the rear which looks appealing. I really want a rear disc setup w/parking brake. Would a C4 kit on the rear be too much brakes in comparison to my stock fronts? Or would I need to upgrade them too? Is there anyway to put C4 disc brakes on my stock disc spindles? And if I ended up with 4 wheel disc, which master would I need then?

Geez damn pro touring bug, all I wanted to do was get rid of the ugly booster in my engine bay and spend like $60.00 on anew master, now I am up to like a $1000.00 or more. I will admit I was pretty happy with the performance of my stock brakes it never let me down. It is just a street terror and budget is a issue (read-college student!)
Ha!

Well I looked some more and I cant afford to do C4 kits all the way around so I think im going to use my Ws6 parts and get a Lokar handhled e-brake and upgrade the front rotors and pads. It is just going to be a street car after all.

Unless of course anyone has some used setups for sale??

So which master is best for stock front discs and the ws6 rear discs?
And which master is best for just converting my power brakes to a manual disc/drum setup?

If you wanna do it cheap you'll need an S10 man set up, lines and a 3rd gen disc/disc prop combo valve. Don't forget to grab the master rod push rod and retainer while your out there.

I do have another thought. Look arround for a hydra boost set up, use braided steel lines and make them run in a more hidden way.
AS for getting away from a "ugly" booster why not try a smaller bouble diaphram unit adapted to your car and clean it up and paint to match.
With manual brakes you wont like the stopping without spending some big cash to get everthing just right.
I have a 77 Monza And I am looking into using a hydraboost unit on it to free up soem space or even convert an electroboost unit from some car(this means it will have the pump ran electricly and self contained,,,and it may even work in with my prototype ABS setup too.
But good luck in your quest and Ill try to look up some parts ideas as I didg through parts books my self.

Well I don't want to run hydraboost. Wouldnt a manual disc/disc master from older corvette work if it had a 1"bore? I swapped to this manual disc master on my dad's '67 elco and I guess it could run disc/disc or disc/drum and butit has wilwood 4 pistons on the fron and stock drums on the rear and it works way better than the stock booster and master plus you can actually feel wat the brakes are doing with the pedal!! Ithink it was a 1" bore not positive though.

I'd be concerned mixing C4 and early brakes, the early brakes have a large piston bore and require a lower line pressure to opeate. The C4 has smaller bores matched to the smaller front bores, - requires higher pressures.

I had an 89 IROC that used a C4 style rear caliper with a single piston front caliper but it was the GM "Metric" style front caliper which uses a 2.5" bore, not the old 2 15/16" which was generally used before 1980.

I think i am going to just stick with stock discs up front and run the WS6 discs in the rear.
