i currently have a mild 396 and six speed combo. I wanted to put an LSX motor in the car but I see it more and more evreyday and I'd like to be different as much as I can. What is a completely bad ass BB set up i can do for my car? Im gonna drive it alot on the street and track it once or twice a year. im open to ANYTHING.

I have a shafiroff 540 with an F2 from Frank on here. Should be good for 1200hp when would up. An F1 on your 396 would be a very badass addition.

Big horsepower not only costs money to build the engine correctly, but you will also need better suspension, wider tires, better brakes, etc, etc, etc....

400-450 hp in a street car is very respectable, anything over that is getting up into the fat wallet range.

pick them up on eBay from people who cancelled thier projects (still new in the crate) for around $10K. 12 month warranty from date of purchase.

Actually, a Nelson TT BBC is about the baddest you can get right now.

Tom Nelson has the sickest BBC's. Twin Turbo up to 3,000hp. SBCs making 2,300hp. How insane are you?

HA
Lets say that I worked on a Twin Turbo C4 Vette that would crush the Nelson motor in the video...
This was the intake

The Nelson motor is still supported by 2 fuel rails :D

Sounds good. Where's the video/dyno sheet? That intake looks nice.

I built a pump gas 509 for a buddy's 71 Chvelle that makes 722hp and he drives it all the time on 92 octane as planned.
AFR 305 as cast heads
SRP pistons
11:1CR
Comp soild roller 295DR-10 262/272 @.050 w/.670 lift

I guess the 548 with 10.0 to1 comp I'm building should easily make that hp number, I was hoping for at least 700hp, looks like it won't be that hard to do. Bowtie block, Edelbrock heads, roller cam, LA billet crank, Crower rods, JE pistons. 4.600 bore 4.125 stroke and hopefully a Hogan injected intake.

A 632 or 706 would be a killer package, I know I guy putting a 816 PG motor in a street car.

Visually bad ass, yes. Cost per horsepower increase, no. It won't make enough more power than a properly tuned carb to justify the cost and he could do the Procharger AND all the fuel system stuff to support it for probably less. Kinsler wanted $7k in 1987 for a mechanical cross ram for my 454.

Plus if he wants 700 as a target, he doesn't need to spend extra for a name like with a Musi/Shaffiroff type guy. There's plenty of builders doing 700+ hp pump gas engines that are less famous, just as good and a LOT cheaper. My local engine builder showed me a dyno sheet from a sub $20k 496 engine that made 720 something on 93 octane. I'm not knocking the big guys, just putting across my point of view.

A 555 pg motor would be good, aluminum be light and make good hp

I am in the same boat with you Jesse. I have a 66 chevelle with a muncie M21 behind a 396 and I am looking for more power but not wanting to save up money forever.
I have done a ton of research and I have to tell you that I am sooooo excited about being able to order an internally balanced 496 in a month or two. I am a member over at chevelles.com and found a builder who has consistently impressed every customer I could find. Go to that website and search for VortecPro. The builder's name is Mark Jones and he is in Colorado. I came very close to pulling the trigger on a local builder but after reading about this guy's customer service I absolutely ruled that out. Check out the builder's website I think it is vortecpro.com? He has a ton of options and pretty affordable.

Mark Jones sells his motors on Ebay as well. Im gonna pull the pin on on for my chevelle when I get the chance. He builds a 475 with 570 hp and a 505Ci with 650 HP all with GM iron oval port heads. www.vortecproperformance.com
