I am probably one of the only people on Pro-Touring.com running 13" wheels!! For now...

Well I do have ideas for the old Ford and one of them is Mach 1 wheels, I hope it will give hints of the Magnum 500 wheels but in a larger diameter set up. The 63 Falcon is extremely tight for rear wheels so fitting an 8" wide wheel is tough.

Test fitting in progress, some hurdles to overcome but it is coming along...first is as is on stock suspension, 2nd is a photoshop drop. Rear clearance is tough but I am trying different spacers to see what backspacing it may tolerate on stock leaf springs. Ideally, putting an AirBar under the rear would be great, plus that would give additional inside wheel clearance.

Well I am thinking about ordering a set of wheels, I want something old school but in a 17" size. Finding out the limits out back, I know now what backspacing will work.

1. How do you think the CL205 TT Classic will look? Forgive the crude photoshop...car needs a drop...Looks like a long back order on cl205's though. If the grey spokes don't work could always spray em black like some have done on this forum.

2. 2nd idea may be a Boyd Junkyard Dog, with the old school gray center.

Check out the American Racing Salt Flat Specials in a cast gray center.

Those Salt Flats are cool too...I need to find some pictures on cars in the gray centers... I just saw your artwork of a black and green 1963 Bel Air on these Salt Flats that looks good! I also noticed Classic Industries has a few project cars on these rims that don't overwhelm the car but add a nice statement.

Salt Flats look great!! I know a guy that runs them and they look very nice. Her are some pictures and a link to his 63 Falcon with a Turbo 250 Six that runs in the 11.90's !

Thanks Andrew, Those were actually Budnik Muroc IIIs on the Bel Air. That's a great car with a ton of subtle custom mods.

I really appreciate all the comments, really helps me out! I am leaning on those Salt Flats in gray for my choice, and I have seen that little Turbo 6 Falcon, nice car all around.

There is a big national Ford Falcon meet in Springfield, MO coming up in July 08 that I'd like to attend.. so I better get moving on the car projects!

Check out this 65 Falcon on some Boyd's, Junk Yard Dogs in natural finish. Seems to work on the square Falcon but the 60-63 round bird has a different look. Any comments on this wheel?

Forget American Racing torq thrust (made in taiwanese), I'f you like that wheel get the American Eagle wheels (made in USA!) and blast the center and paint the shade of gray you want. Thats what I did for my 77 camaro. American Racing offers more backspace options that would be the only reason to buy them. Eagles are less expensive also. I like the salt flats on your car though!!

Well on the offshore Mfg point, I'm not worried, quality companies must ensure they have a process in place for making the product properly or they will be out of business. I have nvr had an AR wheels but seems a reasonable expectation they will be ok. The 10 wk wait is my worry.

As to backspacing, YES it is critical on this old Falcon, I have found that an 8" will squeeze in w/ about 5" b/s; my car although mostly original paint (!) except the RR quarter had been reworked and affects clearance a bit, plus worn out leaf bushings and side to side variance on all the old cars..

So that being said I am looking at a 17x7, w/ b/s of 4.75 to 4.5 min. Otherwise I'm into the fender. American has some good options on b/s, although they are 10 wks out.

Any love for the Boyd Junkyard Dog? old school natural aluminum center w/ polished lip...in stock...

My vote would definitely be for grey Salt Flats ... almost put them on my Cougar, but changed my mind.

I would expect more than a 10 week wait.I ordered a set of 17x8
Grey Salt Flats in October.I'm on 5 months now.I would call AR custom shop and check availability.
Check the posts by Fastbowtie on pages 2-3 of this thread. (http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=10237)This will give you an idea of how AR's custom shop operates.

Great ... and to add to that snowfall in China fouls up distribution of everything manufactured so we'll see. Order date 3/5/08.

Added a Photoshop of Salt Flat wheels plus a slight lowering for good measure.

Well I won't get any awards for photoshop skills but I think the real thing will look great..

The long awaited Salt Flat wheels have arrived! The order took what seemed like forever to fill but the wheels look great.

There is just not a lot of room under the back of these cars plus the AirOverLeaf takes away a bit as well. The size and backspacing I specified looks like it will work perfectly.

Since this post started the car is now on AirRide, btw, and the additional changes to lower the car are about done.

Thanks for all the opinions and ideas posted here, you guys really helped me out on the decision. Good call!

Cool car, the salt flat wheels will look awsome on the white paint. I am helping my dad do a 63 Falcon convert for my mom.

Great choice & worth the wait. Those wheels were made for that car.

Can't wait to see pics of the wheels on the car.

BTW I also in live/work in the Frisco/Plano area.

Well it is late and it has been a long day chasing parts.... but I couldn't wait to see how they look mounted up. What do you think?

Awesome, you couldn't have found a more perfect rim.

Thanks for the compliments! This shot shows the deflated condition. Rear AirOverLeaf suspension is on 2" drop spacers but most likely will try some 3" ones.

Now we're talking... the look is just right, now the rear is on 3" lowering blocks.. in fact the whole car aired out sits on the OE bumpstops just right...
