The roof was completely rusted out under the moulding above doors. The stock roof was not worth fixing.... After some bracing off it came...

Donor roof from a totaled 78 installed.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Still need to finish up the fitting at the sail panels. Grafting in the 78 roof takes alittle extra metal work right were the sail and roof meet.

I actuall entertained the idea of making it a convertable, but did not have access to a good donor car to get parts from.... a gen 2 convertible would have been something different....

There's a convertible 81 firebird for sale in the for sale forum.

What are you doing to treat the rust crafty on the inner panels? Best of luck with the car. I'm glad you're saving it.

I picked up some weld thru primer and some other coating from eastwood co..... the name escapes me right at the moment..... I'll have to take a look at it when I get to the house later.... I'll coat everything after a quick media blast.... Can't blast it right now, got to get it rolling so I can move it outside....

Crafty One

Put the suspension thru some cycles this evening.... here it is with the crossmember only about 3/4" off the floor.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The upper ball joint is maxed out.... so it's not going any lower without changing the UCA's

Of course the car does not sit low enough..... Bring on the 2" Frame Z :scared:

Very cool project. When you cut the frame and raised it 2 inches in the front. What are you going to do to the core support to handle that chop?

Being to close to the beach does not help either..... This car lived most of its life in Panana City Fl.....

I'm going to lower the frame horns 2" just behind were the bumper brackets bolt to the frame.

Well.... I go the frame welded tonight..... but I'm kind of pissed at myself.... If you look in the pictures I had two lines. The lower of the two was my original mark and the top was the second. Well dumb ol' me lined everything up with the original mark.... so It looks as if the "Z" is going to only be 1.5" instead of 2".... :banghead:

Not much for updates.... but I did push the car outside to clean out the garage so I snapped a couple of pics..... I'm waiting on a few part to come in so I can start building the rear 4-link.

Crafty One
02-15-2008, 09:46 AM
Yes I did.... Have not had a whole lot of time to work on the car since both of my girls keep passing some bug back n forth....

I have the lower bars and bag mounts mounted to the axle (ford 9"). I'm in the process of building the cross member of the front lower mounts. Will post some pics by the end of the weekend...

I thought mine was low...that's some SERIOUS tuckage!

What are you going to do for inner fenders?

Crafty One
02-15-2008, 12:11 PM
Going to rob the old trailer for the front ones...LOL.... I am going to use trailer fenders. It will help with the fender structure since they are 16ga steel. Still undecided about the back. I'm trying to keep some sort of back seat.... and that is not going to be easy....

The front cross member and lower bar mounts.

not sure whats up, however i would not install the rear control arms at that angle, you need to channel the body and or channel the susp mounting points

That is not its final spot.... I did not get around to cutting the stock frame rails to move the cross member up. The top of the exhaust cutouts will be about 1/2" higher than the stock floor in that area.

Interesting build. How much lower do you think the front end will go with the motor and trans in there? Also...is this an Air Ride suspension that you're using or another manufacturer? I only ask because I thought the Air Ride stuff came with it's own control arms.

Looking good.

Crafty One
02-21-2008, 06:13 AM
The front will not go any lower.... In the pic with the air let out that is with the LCA's touching the frame. The air suspension is not a kit.... It is however based on the design of the AirRide Cool Ride front kit for the gen2's. Just built it myself to save alittle $$$. Eventually in the long term the whole front will get redone with a custom subframe, but I'm trying to keep my attention on the rear suspension and body and get the stance right.

Not much again, but another update......

Removed the rest of the floor pan, and floor bracing. Installed new mounts for the front cross member/floor brace. This moved it's mounting point up 1.5" into the body. I will be moving the front frame mounts up 1.5"'s also to match.

Does anyone have any ideas for this area? There are no replacment panels for this spot on my year. I am contemplating cutting it all out and starting over with a complete frame.....:hand:

Have not had anytime to work on it... still sitting in the backyard under a tarp till I decide which way I really want to go with it.... I'm kind of tied up with a motorcycle that I'm building for a guy and re-bagging my buddies 03 s-10....

I'd really like to find a decent donor car or use mine for a few needed parts. I'll be bringing something back to the table here the first part of '09

Update:

The car has a new owner.... I sold the body to a dirt track racer... It was sad seeing it go, but this was for the best.

I've been busy building an SFBD S10 for a buddie of mine. Hoping to revisit the PT world with a new project this summer....

Anyone know were I can find a 2nd gen 2dr 4wd (non zr2) S10 blazer?

HectorM52

You need to get onto www.s10forum.com - those guys are doing SFBD's all day long. Might even find a truck you want.

However I suggest you get on www.s-seriesforum.com/forum - a better group of guys in my opinion.

Find your truck on Craigslist. Just keep an eye out. A new search engine I've foiund is www.craigshelper.com - it lets you search regionally/locally.
