X pipe necessary, or 2 into 1 OK?

Would there be any drawbacks to using a 2 into 1 system rather than a 2 into X into 2 system? The benifit of the X is the fact that it balances the pressures, am I right? Wouldn't I be just as well off as long as I use a pipe that's big enough?

A good Y-pipe will work just as well, or possibly better, IMHO.
But, it's not just a matter of having the pipe large enough, the transition from two pipes into one is very important.

IIRC, that is a good part.

There is a company out there that can make you a great part, but they are just a little bit expensive. Burns Stainless, IIRC. They make headers and X-pipes and other related parts, and if you send them the specs of your vehicle they will design an exhaust, but you have to buy the parts from them.

Anyway, my guess is that you will be within a few horsepower of a dual exhaust with a system using that part if everything is sized properly.
