Dude you are a Post whore.

Well anyways about the car. This was my daily driver until the slave cylinder went out about a year ago. Normally this would have been a quick job, but since i had a leaky oil pan gasket I figured i might as well pull the motor and swap in a new one. Well after reinstalling the drivetrain. I bottoned her up and rolled outside to make room in the garage and planned on the next weekend to start hooking everything back up. I still had the upper plenum off at this point and appearantly there is a leak in the cowl area above the engine and over the course of the week with some rain storms the engine filled up with water. A week later I discover my new fish bowl. Just my luck. I was so digusted with the situation at that point I just closed the hood and walked away from it.

Until this past Saturday.....

Eventually unwilling to admit defeat and with a new refreshed perspective. I decided to rally the troops and yank the drive train once again and see what the damage was. The video is just a collection of pictures from the days event with a fair bit of posing :wasntme: .

The car is a 1996 Camaro Y87 with T-Tops. The drivetrain consists of a 3800 Series II L36 V6 (200 HP) with a Borg-Warner World Class T-5 manual 5-speed transmission. Not a powerhouse but she'd hook them up every now and again. The rearend is the originall 10-bolt unit but with a 3:73 (aftermarket) Auburn positraction installed. And 4 wheel disc brakes all around to boot.

For the uninitiated the Y87 was a factory performance package that upgraded suspension, braking, steering, traction and exhaust. Basically you could think of them as a Z28 without the V8 drivetrain.

Here is a breakdown on different options per yers for the Y87:

Well that was then and this is now. I basically want go beyond the factory's upgrades. Better suspension, bigger brakes and of course more power.

I can't explain why but I have a real desire to build a Chevy 305. Maybe because they are cheap and plentiful but also to be different. I liked the idea even more especially after reading Popular Hot Rodding's 305 "Hate Me" build where they made 372 HP and 350 ftlbs on a conservative head, intake, cam and carb swap.

Anyways it should be fun. Stay Tuned.

You should drop in a built LT-1. I love mine!

I'd love to. Not exactly sure what I'm doing. Other than not putting the V6 back in :getout:

Will have to see what I can get a good deal on. What i really like about the whole this is that I could drop in a 572 if i wanted and i would only pay insurance for a V6. Sahweet.

Ls1/T56 swap would be a no-brainer

Put the V6 back in with a couple turbo's.

As much as i hate to say, that would be sweet. Have super six motor sports build ya nice 4.3 stroker, get turbonetics to mock up a TT kit and run wild.:jump:

you would also blow the s out of every single part of your drivetrain. which would be pretty sweet i guess.

I've heard pro-charged LT-1's are fun, but that was with Bill Howell driving so I didn't really get to experience it... (just kidding Bill, that car was bad!)

Building the 3800 is a thought. Ala Grand National so to speak.

Intense-Racing has done some amazing stuff with the 3800. They have 4ht gen Firebird that got 8.991 @ 152.12 mph and a 99 GTP that has a best run of 9.223 @153.86.

So not too shabby for the little V6.

And to boot the the guy who owns the Firebird live right here in Dayton. Pretty convenient huh?

From an earlier run:

So lots to think about. One main consideration is the tranny. i'd need to upgrade to a T56 for sure. I thought the World Class T5s in the Camaros were same as the Mustang crowd. Is that not true? How do they get by without grenading the trans?

Aww bugger....

And I did do a search, it mush have space between the words that got me.

Ironic that yours is a 69 and this one is a 96. Guess I'll have to think about it some more.

Regarding the engine.

While the TT 3800 is impressive for me personally it just doesn't have the "Man Points" that a LSX/SBC/BBC would have.

And while I'll have to look at some more before I commit to it, i do like the looks of a 572 BBC under the hood mated to a T56.

I would run a turbo 3800 in that car, its different and you can have some good fun. We have a turbo firebird, (ONE OF OUR PROTOTYPES) With our single 57 trim custom turbo, motor compleatly stock, it ran 12.98 in the 1/4 on street tires, we do have some suspention mods done, blowing the broken in brand new TCI torque converter at 1/8 mile marker.. This car should have ran bettween 12.3 to 12.5 in the 1/4. and thats at 9psi.. intercooled, and its alot of fun to drive... and ill tell ya the responce on that motor is sweet.. Ill just say that ...:ssst:
