Moser axle bearings

I'm having the Ford sealed bearings pressed onto the axles tomorrow.

I remember reading something from a BGH post saying to take the O ring off the outside of the bearing before putting the axle/bearing combo into the housing. There is an inner seal that keeps the gear oil inside, so it looks like it's there to keep dirt out?

Has anyone done this with success?

There is a seal that can be put in the axel tube close to the center section when using sealed bearings - typically used for oval track cars to keep the oil at the gears. I've never tried them on the street because of venting issues.
