I was just looking at my exhaust system and found a few holes in it. I think I want to replace most or all of it with stainless steel. I need some help. Do they make cherry bombs in stainless? Can I gradually replace pieces as I need to with stainless or is this a bad idea? Will there be any problem if I bolt stainless pipes to a stock exhaust manifold?

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask. Once you go to stainless this means in the real world the system is good until you have some sort of accident that bends the pipes right? Or do they wear out from metal fatigue?

I'd like to give you some advice, but what kind of car are we talking about here? You said it has stock exhaust manifolds?
Stainless exhaust systems are very nice, and I have a complete custom made stainless exhaust system on my '67 Camaro. Stainless exhaust isn't cheap, so plan on spending some cash on a nice system.
If you are just worried about durability and protecting the system from rust, then an aluminized steel system will be just fine. If it were my car, I'd get an entire new exhaust system and be done with it. As long as this is a common musclecar, you should have not problem finding a variety of bolt-in exhaust systems to choose from. Magnaflow and Stainless Works make nice stainless systems, and Flowmaster makes some good aluminized steel systems. It all depends what you want and how much you are willing to spend.
I don't know about stainless cherry bombs, but I have stainless Flowmaster Hushpower II's. They are sort of a modern glasspack style muffler, and I love the sound of them with my x-pipe. Hope this helps a little,
Andy

Thanks Andy, It does help! I was just looking at the stainless works site and learned a whole lot today! No it is not a common musclecar, it's a 77 caddy but I want a single exhaust system that exits before the rear wheels without a cat so that helps make it cheap. Aluminized steel? Will this stuff take as much punishment from road salt as 304 stainless? I also think I want a muffler shaped like a glass pack but am open to suggestions. I'll look at the Hushpower II you mentioned.

Road salt is the least of your worries. Exhaust systems usually rot from the inside out because of the corrosive exhaust gasses. IF you want to spend the money on stainless go for it but there is nothing to be gained except added cost.
I agree 100% with Andy. Aluminized steel will work just fine and any good muffler shop can build a system like that for you. Locally built, locally gauranteed and no shipping charges to add to the cost.

Thanks atroracer, Unfortunatley for me my system seems to be rotting both from inside out and outside in. Won't I have problems with aluminized steel rotting where I have to trim the pipes shorter? or weld them together? Is the coating durable?

Now is aluminized steel that same stuff those brake lines that are better than the cheapest but not as good as stainless are coated with or is that something else?
