I'm in Orlando with family doing Disney World and thinking about going to the beach (with children & grandchildren) tomorrow to take a break from all the walking and crowds.
Which beach is close and nice for a quiet getaway ? Thanks in advance.

East coast having a problem with red tide in certain areas. Not really dangerous. Just can cause some minor irritaion. Check local news for best locations since this stuff moves up and down the coast from day to day.

Destin's beach is great.. white sand, clear blue water.

A little too far from Orlando for a quick get a way. But you are correct about their beaches.

I can remember driving to Clearwater beach in less than 2hrs and it was just as far to Daytona or any of the others on the east coast. The Gulf side is the best IMO and the Atlantic is a sespool:seizure: . All in all you are centrally located when you are at Disney

Daytona is about 60 minutes or so away, just East on I-4. This time of year is pretty quite there other than this is Bike Week Weekend there. Not the best beach, but the closest if you are just wanting to kick some sand.
Destin ( on the other side of the state and a long ways from you) is my favorite Fl. beach though.

just wondering how this stays in the pro-touring discussion section?

New Symerna (sp?) is a great beach - and you can drive on it. Check out the jetties on the north end and hang with the surfer dudes or head south and check out Turtle Mound.

Daytona especially if you've never been there , just driving on it is cool !! , New Smyrna is about the same . in daytona there's all kinds of food and rental stuff. Ponce Inlet at the south end of daytona beach is also nice.

Things are moved as moderators notice them in the wrong place. Actually I posted a reply without noticing it was in the wrong forum. Thanks for pointing it out, your post about it jogged my attention.

This is a late reply I know, but forget the east coast and head for the gulf coast beaches! I lived in Tampa for years and loved going to the white sugar on Clearwater and St. Pete's beaches. If you want something a little more subdued, head to Treasure Island (in St. Pete). With traffic, it would probably be 75 minutes from Kissimmee, which is about the same as going to Daytona from Kissimmee.
