I would like to use the IRS from the 08 Pontiac Solstice GXP for my project Chevette....here-https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35479, Afterall I do have the Engine/Trans/ drivshaft for it. HOWEVER.....the Solstice is a hell of a lot wider and I want the rear wheels to tuck inside the wheelwells.

Does anyone know where I could get the driveshaft shortened and the axles/halfshafts(whatever ya wanna call em') shortened?????

If I can get it done, I should be able to get the rear diff. to fit and have some nice brakes to boot!!!

Anyone have ANY ideas......besides going with something different....

Heres a picture.....

What about having a sleeve made with some holes drilled in it, Then cutting out the desired length and then inserting either end, and completely weldining the ends and plug weld the drilled holes????

Would it work???
Would they have to be ballanced after?

I won't recommend doing this. The reason being; what are you going to do about the upper and lower a-arm geometry? Narrowing the track, without a complete suspension redesign, will result in a an ill-handling car with unpredictable handling characteristics. Save yourself a lot of money and grief and stick with a narrowed live axle. I guarantee it will handle better then a cut-up and un-optimized IRS.

Might want to look into a Dana 44 C4 style rear. How strong are those Getrags?
