is it possible to install the stock heater box assembly with the motor, fenders and hood installed? is there enough room to install this in an engine bay thats pretty much compleet? or is it time i got a compleet underdash system :ssst:

It's REALLY tough to get at the 2 or 3 bolts that hold the assembly together around the fan. They're back under/inside the fender. I guess if your arms/hands are small enough and you got the right bendable extensions it's possible. I've tried on my 67 and 73 and couldn't get them with everything installed.
sooo does the fender need to come off?

I re-read your post, if you're installing it may be easier as long as you clean up the threads nice and use new nuts. Try it by just reaching back from the engine bay first.
I was fighting against 25+ years of crap on the threads of my 73 so I took off the front wheel, loosened the inner fender and squeezed my hand back to get the last nuts off. Scratched the hell out of my arm/hand but got 'em...

you can drop out the inner wheel well.then its gravy
does any one know of a in dash unit thats some what low in price? all i need is heat/defrost for humid summer nights when the car fogs up. i dont need cold air

Flex a lite has a compact unit that mounts behind the glove box. Summit part number is FLX 640 and lists for $149.95. I've installed a similar unit in an older Jeep...works hot!
is it electric or does it use a heater core? i think this may be for me

Its a self contained unit. You have to plumb the two water lines to it, Hook up a couple of wires and presto,you have heat . Its called the Mojave Heater. Contact Jeff S at http://www.highsidemotorsports.com/ I'm sure he can get it for you.
I have one in my Pinto Wagon. Works pretty good.
