hi, i'm doing a 'market study' ,and wondering what kind of input i could get on the subject of replacement frames. although what i have built
is not a true replacement, i feel it is better. to see my example, please
check the classified section for 'custom bolt in gm a-body chassis'
any input from anybody that has or has not already replied to my
classified would be greatly appreciated.
thank you, doug anderson

I started a frame thread a year ago here: http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/7/7151.html?
More recently, an east coast chassis shop has "hinted" they are in development of an A-Body replacement chassis supposedly replete with C5 suspension. These cars are getting onwards to 40-years old, so somebody has to attend to the performance handling needs of this middle-aged mid-size!!

:icon996: Man.............where were You 3 years ago. If I werent allready 3/4 of the way through doing pretty much what You described to My exsisting chasis I'd be all over that depending on if I could afford it. I think if You build they will come. A prototype would do wonders for prospective buyers though.

Nice looking set up man........ by the way... Bob over at Progressive is already building a chassis for the A-bodies and if I remember right you can get it set up with either C-4, C-5, or straight axle / four bar set up and a mustang II.... anyway... his web site is www.progressiveautomotive.com

I did not see where he built for 64-72 A-bodies, looks like mostly street rod chassis' and Tri-5. Do you have to ask for a custom application?
I like the work that has been done on the chassis in this post, would probably be interested in the bare frame, no suspension parts. I have been working on my '70 frame for some time now, when time permits. I had some bad spots that had been patched in the past (body mount area at the firewall). I built a jig, cut out the section from that body mount to the 4th mount before the axle, I have used 3 x 3 square tubing, just tacked in at this time. I like what I have done, but would be interested in something like what it being done here, for a reasonable price. Keep us updated.

Wayne Due built a chassis with C4 front and rear suspension, for a 70 Chevelle. You can see its construction on his website.
Getting back to the subject matter,pav8427,what front suspension did that chassis of yours use?

I think a bolt in chassis is a great idea, and there is a definite market for them. One thing I would like to see is room for large tires front and rear. A-bodies look great with 335s or 345s stuffed out back with a comparable (275+) size tire up front. Either way though, the frame looks good, and as was stated earlier, if you build them, they will come. While I have a first gen F-body as of now, I'd like to build my Dad a '67 Chevelle in a few years, and I would definitely be very interested in something like this. Keep us updated.

Doug, I posted over at lateral-g, did you see it? ANy idea on pricing yet? Have we decided exactly what kind of rear suspension that is, and will it work?

Doug,
If you want feedback I am going to need some "REAL" information. Right now all I know is you are putting a boxed frame together with tubular arms. I have heard nothing of geometry unless you are using stock pickup points and just the B-spindle swap which isn't optimum, nothing on tire size fitment (narrowed front or rear?), I'm assuming your still keeping the stock style converging 4-link which also isn't optimum in the stock configuration, and what kind of testing are you planning. You are going to have to provide more information to sell to most people on this site. Thanks.
