im doing a swap, and am making brackets to weld onto the seat frame then bolt to the original bolt holes, is this the best way or is there a better alternative?

I think that's the best way. You just have to lengthen the rear mounts, if I remember correctly.

I did a similar swap for my 67 firebird. The front holes lined up fine the rear need fabbing. if you try placing the seat in position you will see exactly what needs to be cut and re welded. The front may need a spacer for proper seat angle. pretty simple job. Check the outboard clearance with the floor. Mine were real close.
