I'm new and I'd like to say hello to everybody. I finally have my bird done to a point that I can just drive it and enjoy the improvements I've made. It's come a long way from the leaky, no brakes, "previous owner wasn't a mechanic state" to something that gets attention everywhere I drive. Every traffic light I find a new friend and I can't go anywhere and just park it. Somebody always stops me before I can walk away from it to talk! I drive it as much as I can and get a kick out of the turning heads...

They won't upload for some reason. I press the submit photo button after choosing one and I just get a blank screen next. I think they're too big. I'll cut them down later and try again, I'm at work now and don't have time.

Got 'em done! Check out my PT garage. I'll get some more recent ones later. The engine compartment looks alot better now with the HEI and the taller aluminum valve covers I had to add when I put in the roller rockers. Maybe tonight when I get home...

18x10 rear with 275/40s, and 17x8 front with 225/45s. I wanted sidewalls heights to match so I went with 40s and 45s. It took me 6 weeks to get my rear rims and I had the back spacing perfect for the rear to center the tires in the fenderwells and then changed to a Moser 12 bolt a few months later. It was 1 inch shorter in width so I had to use 1/2 inch spacers (and longer studs) after it was in to move the tires back out. No rubbing inside or out now. Two inch drop spindles in front with and one inch lowering blocks on Hotchkiss multi-leafs rear to get the stance. My Steering rack is only about 3 1/2 inches off the pavement and I had to make some skid/ski plates to keep form tearing it off on man-hole covers. I'll post some pics of that mod later too.

Thanks everybody, and a special thanks to Venomous for the BIG pic! (I gotta see that Camaro ASAP) I've already met Jim Grayson and his beautiful girlfriend Susan this past Saturday. Now if I could just find another '69 ProTouring Firebird to compare and learn...Anybody out there?

Very pretty car. But a Chevy in a 1st gen bird is just wrong

I know I'm so embarrassed! The original Poncho 350 is rusting somewhere in a corn field in Macon, Ga. I looked for it when I found the car but the owner said the block was cracked anyway. He put the new crate motor in to make it driveable, but the only problem was the rest of the car's mechanicals were trashed. The Chevy turbo 350, the noisy rear axle, the VERY leaky no-booster drum brakes and the very sloppy steering box and worn out ball joints all led to his selling it. It was dangerous to drive. The car body was ok but everything else except the engine was garbage. It's not a "numbers matching" rare model 'bird. I figure someday I'll find a Pontiac engine and build it right for a swap back, but right now I'm having too much fun with the Chevy to do it! Parts are very easy to come by and it's simple to work on, not to mention the inherent power potential and dependability of the Vortec engine family. I don't just call this a "daily driver", I really drive this daily.
