This is why:
Pic 1 - Front of house. The guys working on this thing are absolute STUDS (pun intended). They framed the whole thing, including getting the trusses up, roof and walls sheathed in 3.5 weeks. Note: my big bitchin garage taking shape up front....psyched!
Pic 2 - Back of house. Master suite on the left, then kitchen/dinning/living greatroom. Love those doors! We will be able to open up nearly the whole back of the house.

Pic 6 - Master Suite. Walk in closet on the right. Master bath on the left with separate toilet room in the background.

Pic #7: The Camaro goes here. With floor-ceiling cabinets along the LH wall. Deep sink on the back wall. 9' ceilings.
Pic #8: The workbenches go here. Along the LH wall will be a taller bench with a steel top for welding with the welder and compressor beneath. Along the back wall will be the normal height bench. I'll probably top it with masonite so it can be easilly replaced when gunked up. This bench will continue briefly along the RH wall. The upright toolbox will be on the far right with space for the shop-vac and brooms next to the door. I might put some upper cabinets above the bench with some task lights underneath.
I'll probably build my own bench, just because I've never done it.
I've yet to decide on a floor material. Either VCT tile or Epoxy. Gotta check for moisture creep this winter if there is any at all I'll go with the VCT. I'm a bit averse to the interlocking tile thing due to spills and such.

Thanks for the offer, but my GC has some pretty solid subs on tap. We met with the HVAC guy today who reps Carrier and we are feeling pretty good about him. The plumbing guys have been great too.
I really can't say enough about the framing sub though. Their guys show up at 7:30am, strap their bags on and work like sled-dogs until 5:30pm except for a 30min lunch. If the rest of the subs are anything like these guys this place will be done in no time.
I took those photos yesterday. The second day of roofing. It was finished when I dropped by today at 3pm. 3 days to roof a 2400sq' house! Damn!

Actually, I found that thing on CL and put it in the back yard for the contractors to use. The concrete guys used it a bit, the framers don't stop working long enough.

Looks good to me. Let's see though, 2400 sq ft in Cali, what's that run about 1-1.5 million? :razz: I grew up in a house about that size and really don't think I would want something bigger. I see all these new homes that are 3000 + sqft and I wouldn't know what to do with that much space and then the price tag. Wow! And that's over here were prices aren't too ridiculous. I would like a 3000+ sqft garage though. I know I can fill that up. :)

You are about on the mark with the home value. A place a few doors down that was built the same year as ours, but not renovated since about 85 or so just sold for $1.6M. Sick.

It helps a lot that my wife manages commercial construction / real estate. She knows what she's doing and will not let us get caught by many of the pitfalls that homeowners often find themselves in with home improvement projects.
I still don't understand why people dont approach car building (mainly paint/body work) the same way they would approach a project on their home. A contractor is a contractor. It dosent matter if he is holding a paint gun or a framing hammer.

Ya home prices are crazy here but falling. I had to move about an hour away from san jose to be able to afford a house and still have money left over to have some fun.

We spent all day Fri/Sat picking out plumbing fixtures for the kitchen and 2.5 bathrooms. Oh my god! If you think figuring out what you want to do with an old Camaro is tough, step into a mid-high end plumbing gallery. JEEEEZ-US-KEYRIST. Way too much stuff to select from, and the prices?!?!?! Sorry, but I just don't see how a kitchen faucet can POSSIBLY cost more than a pair for ATS spindles.

The master bath stuff gave me a heart attack. This is not counting the tile:
1 tub
1 Tub filler and valves
2 shower heads
2 volume control knobs
2 thermostatic controls
2 sinks
2 sink fixtures
1 toilet
I won't say how much, but let's just say I will be taking a dump surrounded by an LS2 crate engine.

Sell 1/2 those cars in your sig and you'll still have more than you can drive in a week. You'll have a pocket full of cash and way smaller annual costs in registration and insurance. Ba-Da-Bing, you can afford to finish your Camaro.
