View Full Version : Paint Done! and finally named the project
Well, today marks a big mile-stone for the Firebird. While I was on vacation the week of 9/26/07 I received a voicemail from Auto Restorations in Greeley that the paint work on my 1969 Firebird had been completed.
I stopped by to look over the vehicle and snap pictures. Hopefully I'll be able to find a trailer to utilize and have it in my garage and ready for assembly this weekend.
There's still so much to be done with the car. I've now got to go about getting the wheels/tires, suspension and interior bits taken care of. First thing is to get a proper exhaust on the thing and rid the car of those aweful side pipes.
It's been tough putting this car together over the past 8 years. All while working and going to school full time, and the expenses associated.

Seeing you describe the car more our cars are going to be very similar except mine is a dark gray with black accents. Nice choice on wheels too.

looks like its coming along great! thats an awesome color!
Thanks for all the comments. The pictures I took were all mostly in the shade. I haven't yet seen the car in the full daylight, but the pearl int he black is tinted green, so I'm a little excited to see what the car looks like in the sun.

Very mean looking...I like it!
I assume the rear bumper will be painted as well?
Perfect choice of wheels too. That Bird is gonna be sweet.
What are your suspension and engine plans?

Thanks. I actually haven't decided on the rear bumper yet. The 69 Camaro's look good with a color keyed front bumper, but not so much on teh rear. I'll have to play that one by ear.
Suspension will be functional, but nothing "trick." Custom rate leafs in the rear, GW upper's with afco springs and perch adjusters, probably somehwere in the 750-800lb in. rate. Delrin bushed, DSE steering box etc. G-mod of course.
THe engine combo as it sits right now is a .030 over 455, forged rotating assembly, 428HO (#62) heads. So it's an iron headed 11.5:1 compression motor. sLikely somehwere in the 400 hp range. It's got a moderate cam in it which I might switch out for something a bit more radical.
It needs a new rear-end in it first. All that torque and she's one legged!

Looks really nice, and I love the color choice! I can't wait to see that baby in person. Keep us CO boys updated on the progress and when she will make her first showing.

That is some SERIOUSLY nice paint! I like the color. The wheels are going to be right on, and I agree with the black accent idea.

Brought my firebird home today, and stuffed it in the garage with the corvette.
My neighbors think I'm certifiable.
I just like my cars is all!
Now that I've got the car home I get to start on all the little odds and ends. This weekend will be cleaning up the interior, and doing some touchup to some of the painted interior surfaces, as well as installation of all the weather stripping.

In the top pics you can see hints of green or even what looks to be blue. In the darker picture above I don't know if it just grain or not but you can see the green. Pretty cool!!
Joe
The pearl in the paint is in fact green. It's subtle though.
In direct sunlight the color is a charcoal, almost slate grey. As the sun faceds a bit or you get a certain angles you can definitely notice the green.

ditto!
No pics this time around, but I wanted to share some updates on the car.
Weatherstripping is in
Interior trim pieces have been painted matt black
Trunk trim, tail lights and rear wireing is complete
It's been a long COLD winter so I haven't gotten as much done as I would have liked to. I'm still shooting for spring for completion.
I'll be getting the new wheels on order shortly, and I can start going from there.

what color is that exactly? It is awesome.
I don't really know the name of it. It is a GM color however.
All I know is the paint code!

It looks like the same color as the 06 GTO 'Phantom Black Metallic' or very similar to it. Very nice!

Great looking Firebird, I would like to get some information on the turbo setup you're going to be using. I am going to build a 72 Grand Prix and want to turbo or supercharge it. Also what transmission are you going to intstall?
Regards
Mark
