We were doing some bench building today at the machine shop and my friend said he had some new LS1 flat-tops in stock bore sizing that we could throw in the 5.3L if we could make them work.

Anyone know? We were thinking since it would be like a .114 overbore it would lead to other issues.

Has anyone seen it done, tried it, etc?

having the block sonic tested to make sure the walls are thick enough is the only way to ensure the block can handle it. bore size is the only difference between the 5.3, ls1/6, and 6.0. Only the 4.8 has a different crank.

My buddy said he'll be taking it to have it sonic tested. He's all excited about trying something different with this motor.

We're going to run stock bore LS1 flat-top pistons, stock crank and rods, all new bearings and gaskets.

Then run the 5.3L heads with LS1 valves, 3-angle job and mold porting, might mill them but not sure.

Painless HI-RPM kit

Should be a sweet motor - an LS1 in 5.3L clothing. :D

Putting 5.3 heads on LS1 motors is a great way to make power. That's essentially what you're looking at. It bumps compression just a little over what an LS1 would have so you'll have to keep that in mind when tuning and your fuel choice. A quality 93 octane will do fine. Key word quality. If it'll work I think it'll be cool. An iron 5.7 liter.

Yep, I've got another set of 5.3L heads waiting for my 98 TA as well.

I used to run a 4th gen parts business years ago and I still have some goodies lying around. :naughty:

Yeah, man, you got it! Wow, I didn't know anyone actually remembered that business.

I used to be on TAC when I had more time. I had to condense my internet surfing, so I choose PT over TAC. TAC is still a great site though. I just don't have time for it as well.
