Yep.. my 275/35/18 R888s are wider than my 275/35/18 RA1s.. lol

You would think a 275 tire is a 275 tire..

The website says the R888 is 11" wide and the RA1 is 10.9" wide. Thats a diff of .1 or 1/10 of an inch.

Caution, big file
http://picsorban.com/upload/r88 vs ra1.jpg

As you can see it's more like .5 inches wider. It may not sound like much but I just when through the hassle of having my front wheels sucked in .5 inches and now that eats up half of that. It also gives the tire a pronounced "pinched in" look compared to the RA1. If I had know I would have had the wheel made .5 wider to the inside.

Oh well, I'm going to switch to a 255/35/18. It should only be .5 less wide than the old 275 RA1

Just wanted to toss out to people that not all sizes are created equal. Love the tires though, they are SOOOOO sticky.. :yum:

I'd be interested in seeing how much of a difference you get when they are mounted and inflated. I'm sure there will still be a difference, but I wonder if it would be as much as you're seeing with just the tire alone.

Thats not totally true. My friends 255/45/17 Nitto NT555 tires are slightly wider then my 255/45/17 Falken FK452 tires.

I guess some companys use thicker sidewalls on there tire types.

Thanks for the heads up Steve. I was going to order a set of the 888's for the OLC project this week since I'm getting tired of waiting for the PS cup 315's to come available. Looks like I need to practice my patience for a little while longer.

But its not unhead of. My Pilot Sports fit tighter than my BFG's. Im guessing side wall construction.

Actually some tire brands can be wider than other brands even though they are the same sizes. For instance, I wanted to get 315/35/17 tires for my 17x11 wheels, and I found out that Goodyear F1, D3 are wider than the Sumitomos 315/35/17. I had to order the Sumitomos because the Goodyear F1s will have more rubbing issues than the Sumitomos..

It wouldn't of helped with these racing compounds but Tirerack.com has all the specs on every tire. Even though the specs vary from manufacturer to manufacturer it sure could make a difference on these custom builds.

There can be quite a large variance between actual tire dimensions between various brand and models of tires.

I remember vividly having 3 different types of P245/50R16 R-compound tires for my 5.0L Mustang race car back in the early 90s sitting in my garage. And they were all different sizes, you could see it standing 6 feet away from them. Not just width, but height as well.
