View Full Version : Got my new hood on and a little quick wash

I finally got my new 4 in. steel cowl hood somewhat fitted and locked down. Still need a ton of asjustment but I'm heading out for a cruise in. This thing fits 10 times better than that Harwood cowl I had before and costs $150 less for steel. Found it on ebay. I stuck an engine pic in as well. Lemme know what you think. Have a great night!

Thanks for the comments guys.
The rears are 17 x 11s with 5 in. BS
The breathers do just vent into the atmosphere. I stole the idea from a vintage Trans-Am racer I saw at the Mini-Nats.
The cog set-up is from a little company in Northern CA called Black Mountain Engineering. They make a sweet Optima holder I bought as well. I'm not sure they are still around though.

thanks all for the nice comments. Makes it all worth while. \
Front suspension- stock arms, QA1 adjustable coilovers, Quickar (sp?) swaybar.
rear suspension- 2 in. lowered leafs, DSE Koni shocks and mount, 1.5 in. billet lowering block with thrust angle adjusters, home made lower links and perches.

Your Nova looks wicked! Nice job!
I'm not trying to highjack this thread, but for anyone interested in a radius tooth or cogged belt setup, there's a company in PA that sells some nice components... Jones Racing Products.

That is bad ass!
Are you going to paint it to match the car?
I would be tempted to leave it black:cool:

Pretty stoked to see it change.what size AN did you use for the breather... and arent you worried about oil residue getting on you wheels. I really like how they look!!! also could you tell me where you got the air cleaner top from... it like like it steel.

the AN fittings are -16 and the breathers are burn down units from Hardin Marine. They vent to the inner fenderwells through a bulkhead and will be capped by small K&Ns hidden in the wells. The air cleaner was from some circle track online outfit I found years ago.

Car looks great, I love the mini lites. Where did your valve covers come from? And do you have a link for the hood maker?
NOPANTS-68
09-25-2007, 11:13 AM
the valvecovers are just some polished cast cheapies i bought on ebay, had Billet Specialties oil fill caps tig'd in from behind, then powdercoated semi-black.
Here's the link to the hood on ebay:

it's just .125 wall aluminum tubing I Scotchbrited. I ordered the radiator 5 inches wider than stock for additional cooling so the 396 upper hose does not work.

Come on the trim peices that go on the fender around the headlight area and the other trim peice that goes on the front of the hood cant cost that much.

Hey No-Pants, do you have any shots from the rear of the car? I would like to see how the 315's look under there. Also, I gotta say I love the current paint on the car and the vinyl top. Reminds me a lot of Hardisons "old" Nova. Thanks.

The aluminum pipe is 2 in O.D. and needs to be slightly flared on the ends so the clamps can grip it. I did this with a cone shaped block of wood and a dead blow hammer. Was easy.
The wheels are VWW V48s. 17X8s and 17X11s with 5 in. backspace.
It's almost a spitting image of Dan's old car. The new owner has himself a sweet ride.
Here's some rear shots. Still under construction. The DSE tubs make it all work.

thanks guys. The shifter is a highly modified version of a unit sold by Mustangs Plus in central CA. It normally looks like this:

I hated the way it looked so I had a buddy whittle me a new center bar to my spec, had it all powdercoated semi-gloss black, shortened the main bar, redrilled and tapped it for a metric stud, installed a Steeda pistol grip knob that I had powdercoated the original Muncie off white and whala!!! It shifts smooth as silk and puts it exactly where I need it. I like it because it's just medieval looking.
