Whats The Difference Between Small Block Frame Brackets And Big Block Frmae Brackets On A 70 Camaro? Companies Sell Repo Bb Sets But Not Sb Sets?

I used the original sbc frame stands on my 65 impala to mount my big block with no problems.
maybe theres a hieght differences

thats what im thinking, but i have no way to find out for sure... does would anyone be willing to measure theirs if you have them, thanks?

Theres 3/8" difference in height. The big block will sit higher in the car with sb mounts. Small block will sit 3/8 lower with bb mounts.

Doug just to add to the excellent description above, the BB mounts are the same used for the LT-1 Z28's, thats another reason why the originals are sought after.

Actualy the BB frame mounts are lower by 3/8". Adds the room needed to fit a big block under the hood Or a small block with a high rise intake under the hood.

Please go over to David Oozzi's great site and look into rubber mount heights b/c the 1st Gen. Camaro cars can use four rubber mounts.

Three old-style and one newer. I mention all this extra crap coming as HELP b/c I know you don't have a 1st Gen. car but MAYBE the info will help in some way!!


I figure that you can find a stock rubber mount that will allow the installation of a BB on SB frame stands such that you have adequate pan cross member clearance!

And the deal about a BB sitting over in our 1st Gen. cars an inch is handled w/ correct BB frame stands and then I used my stock SB's trans cross member by installing a 3-hole poly trans mount by using the pass side hole in my cross member and the center poly mount hole by kicking the tranny over the needed inch!

Hope this helps and fwiw, 1st Gen. cars can mount ANY engine on ANY frame and rubber mount combination up to the point of not being able to pull the bellhousing bolts out or until the Dizzy has a problem!! I figure 2nd Gen's can too BUT don't know for sure?

I installed my old 409 "W" engine in my car years ago using everything that my 350SS engine fit on!! Including using my SB Z-bar!

The big "W" sucker looked like it was factory installed!!
