Has anyone done it? Will the fronts fit? Rears? What mods?
I found 1 pic from a 70 IIRC camaro but no info. I'm putting them into a 71 TA. Thanks ;)

Don't qoute me, but I seem to remember reading awhile back that the GTO seat are too tall (both overall and seat height). Might want to do some measuring. They are a good looking seat though.

IIRC there might be a width issue. I may have the wrong OE seat on my mind.

gto seats are too wide. a vette or obiously f body seats works fine.

Have you found anymore information on the car in your picture? I bought a set of 06 gto seats to put in my 78 trans am. They are definitely too tall to just bolt in. I was going to see if I could lower the floor pan and flatten it out to make them work. They're probably the most comfortable sports car seats that gm made.

No but we are in this one together! I'm about to go pick up a set as well for my 71 TA! I think they look great & agree they are probably the most comfortable seats that GM has made. How much modding are we looking at? I was hoping it wouldn't be that bad but looks like I will need to break out some flat stock, C.O. wheels, & welder for this one :( How bad are the back seats going to be? What did the set cost ya?

I paid $815 w/ shipping for a set out of an 06. The problem with the gto seats is that the floor on the goat sits very low and is wide. I came up with 3 ideas for mounting the seats.
1. Cut out the floor and make the floor board wider and deeper. I would make it all the same level. I am waiting to get my exhaust system figured out before I can do anymore with this idea.

2. See if an upholstery shop can take some of the height out of the lower portion of the seat cushion.

3. See if I can adapt the seats to use a narrower seat frame. The 94-96 caprice and impala use a narrower power seat frame. I am also going to look at the seat frame from my bonneville seats.

Each option will require a decent amount of work. I was hoping to find someone else that has done the install to see what kind of issues they ran into. I really like these seats and want to make them work. With the high replacement cost, I don't want to make any mistakes installing them.

The back seat should be easier to install. I was going to have the bottom portion modified to fit over the hump in the middle and make some brackets for the upper portion.

hmmm, it does look like this is going to be more of a job than I thought...
When are you going to start cutting / modifying? I haven't even got mine yet. Went to pick them up & fould out one of the backs was ripped. Offered me $50 off & I told him what to do with that $50 for having me drive down there, Err!!!
Keep me informed & I will do the same for you. We should be able to do it! THANKS :-)

Chris and & 76LQ9,

I don't have a clue about the GTO seats in particular, but I will add my .02:

2nd gen headroom is real tight to begin with, so whichever seats you use, they need to be as low to the floor as you can get them.
When I installed my Arizens, I used the co. they recommend on their website http://www.wedgeengineering.net/, and I can say that they worked perfectly. They have measurements for your cars, and can build a set for about $160.00 + shiipping. Good guys there.

Add me to the list. 04 GTO seats in a 71 Firebird.

Has anyone tried ditching the power seat rails for lower rack?

Yeah Im going to look into taking off the power seat rails and see how it fits... does anyone know if these seats have a heater in them? If so what color wire controls the heater?

I just bought a complete 04 GTO & my 1970 TA roller just arrived so I'm ready to go now!!! I'm very excited that I'm not the only one in this boat now :) It will be a bit before the sparks fly but I will keep everyone informed if I figure anything out. Same for you guys. Looks like we will be able to make it work! Mike, thanks for the link & talking with me the other day.

well just an update but my dad ( CNC machinist for 20+ years ) began working on this project. We decided to make some brackets to use the stock mounting holes instead of drilling new ones in my perfect floor boards. If the crowd is big enough we might produce them cheaply for all you car guys. Stay tuned... I'll have updates soon.

Your mounts seem to solve the height problem; however what about the width? Or is that an issue? My car is not around for me to go out and test fit the seats.

That being said, if these mounts work I am in.

The width is perfect...If I remember correctly the original brackets are 16" wide while the new brackets are 18" or 19" . ... I have all the stuff written down at my shop...

I have both front seats in the car, in the correct position that I want them to be in and they clear the doors perfectly. With the doors closed, the armrest on the door panel is the perfect length away...

Going to work on it more tonight. If I get anywhere I'll post some pictures...

I plan on putting some 04 GTO seats in my 69 firebird vert. One thought would be using the 69 seat brackets and adapting them to the 04 seat. I haven't tried to mock them up yet. I know they are narrower than the 04 seats, but if you can come up with a solution I'm certainly for it.

dstryr,
Yes! good info ;) Please keep on this as it looks like you may be the hero for 3-4 of us already!!!

I emailed Wedge Engineering & here is their reply:

Sorry our brackets only work with after market seats.

Subject: 2004 GTO seat brackets

Hi,
I was referred to you by a friend who used your brackets.
I have a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am (2nd Gen F-Body 70-81). I am putting in seats from a 2004 GTO & wanted to know if you make brackets that would help this install? I'm having trouble getting them to fit & coming up with a mounting system. I don't want to do a bunch of fab work but can do some to make this happen. Please let me know what you can do.
Thanks

Well my dad's shop has been really busy lately so we can't get to the brackets till friday - sunday. i think the only fab work you will have to do with my brackets is cut off that side piece of metal by the tracks, where the original wiriing was fed. It hits against the car and intefers with mounting.

i'll keep you guys posted... believe me...I'm on my dad's butt trying to get him to help lol..

well i thought of this at first...but it would be way too much work trying to adapt the seat rails and to keep the power motors...

Got the seats mounted into today . Sturdy as a rock...i mean I was shaking them pretty bad and the tracks would not budge... a lot of head clearance and they fit snug in the doors.

pictures when i get back from the gym.

Stay tuned.

Hello, back in 2008 you were making brackets to put a set of late model GTO seats into an "F" body. In the last post it appears You were successful, are you selling these brackets?

If not do you have a design you can share?
