I am wiring up a new powermaster alternator, and am trying to get some 8 gauge wire to wire up the new 10si style alt, on a 67 camaro. I have tried to get in touch with Mark at MAD enterprise, for the last 3 weeks, no one ever answers. Local autoparts stores dont even carry it. Does anyone know if Some Audio wire will work instead. I was thinking of some streetwires 8ga amp wire. I dont know why it would not work.
Any ideas?

I know Jegs sells 8 ga automotive grade wire and think Summit does as well.

If the 8ga amp wire is intended as a power lead, then it will work fine.

Mark can be tough to get a hold of sometimes, but when you do, will blow you away with his knowledge.

American Autowire sells it by the foot. Give Theresa a shout.

Check out Mad Electrical. They offer an alternator wiring kit and you can order it with there tuff-wire in 8gauge and in any length. Give Paul a call, he a great help.

Hi,
The wire that we sell by the foot is specialized for certain circuits and has that printing on the wire - generally, we don't sell wire by the foot. (but thanks for the referral, Rick. :twothumbs )

We do have an alternative - our high-output alternator hookup kit, part # 500875 (http://0193647.netsolstores.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=27102) is $25.00 & comes complete with 8 gauge power feed, regulator feeds if needed, boot, terminal for the alternator power and the circuit is protected with a piece of fuseable link, for your safety.

It also has complete installation instructions.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Try Home Depot or Lowes (look for MTW, machine tool wire if possible, , it is a lot more flexible than THHN which has a jacket that is hard.); Or www.mcmaster.com is good too.

Go to any of the better car stereo shops in your area and they will have the wire (by the foot) and the correct fittings sitting on the shelve. I also have a powermaster alternator (rated 200A...tested peak output was 238A!) and am using a #2 charge wire.

Car audio power wire is designed to transfer power, so its perfect for your application.
The high end Audio power wires also use a bunch of thin wires, instead of a few thick ones ( like home center wiring), so its nice and flexible.
I'm running Esoteric audio 1/0 power and ground from the batteries in the trunk to the starter. Its thick as a garden hose, but bends around corners like cooked spaghetti. :yum:
