Took out the old 3 wire altenator and voltage regulator and replaced it with an one wire unit. Wired it directly to the battery. I can recal that one of the wires to the horn relais should be deleted or am I mistaken?

Check out Mad Electrical and read there Three wire(internal regulated) versus 1-wire tech sheet. If you still decide to stay with the one-wire you will need to have power to the horn relay to work the horns, at least.

Some great tech and your electrical system will perform much better.

Much better is an understatement. I have better charging with a MAD wired Autozone brand 12si (98 amp) than people with 140+ amp one wire jobs. Replacing the factory splice and charging harness is a lso a HUGE improvement with the new Insulated terminal block.

One wire alts SUCK. I have never understood why anyone would want an alt that will not charge at idle, well atleast not to any good measure.
As an electrical diag tech the one wire is worthless after the brushes are worn from 1/4 to 1/3 down. See the self exciting alt uses a resistor to feed the stator and at low speeds and with weak/worn brushes/springs they tendto quit chargeing and at the most inoportune time.
Besides you only need a 12 volt key on wire to the plug(terminal 1) the other wire from plug(terminal 2) goes to the battery terminal on the back of the alt. and up grade the feed wire to 8 guage wire for less problems.
