I want to upgrade my alternator on my 67 camaro. I want to move up to a 3 wire internally regulated alternator. I understand that one of the wires is supposed to go to the warning light in the dash, however I eliminated said light when I installed a covans dash panel with the autometer gauges. Can I hook directly up to an Led or do i need some kind of diode in between the light and the alt? Anyone ever do a conversion like this? any help greatly appreciated..

The factory brown wire actually has a redundancy built in using a resisted wire in parallel with the wire to the light. This was so that if the light burned out, you didn't lose a charge because of a $.25 bulb. So yes, you can use an LED as it usually also requires a resistor to properly function (diodes are used to allow current flow in 1 direction).
