I was going to use these as elements for the site I'm building for the project, that said I figured you guys might want to take a look or maybe even use them on your sites or as a kinda minimalist background.

I like those. I really wouldn't mind having a print of the second pic.

Thanks for the good words guys.

That's what I'm working on, though generally for work I have to do flash/php/xml/etc, I decided to just do something really simple. All that works right now are home, foreword, and parts. Tell me what you think...too minimalist...too boring?

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to try to finish it tonight.

Since I've received about 4 PMs for a printable version of the second image, here it is. It's 10inx12in or so at 250ppi (dpi), so it's good for print. You could probably got 20-30% bigger if you wanted and have it still look ok.

it's 1.9megs, so it's a hefty file.

How did you get those pictures to develop like that? Was it photoshop or camera settings?

The first I just upped the saturation a bit. I always do color correction to my photos anyway. The second I just de-saturated.

The ISO was a hair high, which explains some of the grain, it was around 400iirc. They were taken in my very dark garage at night with the door closed on a 30 second exposure, where I then shined my penlight on the areas that I wanted seen, which is why some areas are much more visible than others.
Very cool technique called painting with light, which they often use on good engine shots (so you can't see the zip ties, and dirt) as well as accident photos at night, so you can make the tire marks, and various impact points stand out from an otherwise dark photo. Plus since it's a timed exposure with specific light it doesn't drowned out the color the way flashes frequently do.

Here's a kinda crappy example of that technique with a little photoshop to 'erase' part of the hood on this Kenne Bell powered HD.

So it's just a pinch of photoshop to make sure it has the right tones, and a whole lot of camera setting to get the right stuff in the image.

...if anyone in the San Antonio/Austin area wants some pics of their cars tell me, I need to build my portfolio anyway, and I'll give ya a CD with all the pics, plus the good ones color corrected. Plus cars are my favorite thing to take pics of...well, next to naked girls, but people are generally more apt to let you take pics of their cars.

I have the site almost done, if you wanna give me some opinions on the words and pictures. The pictures page is two-thirds done, and the thank you page isn't up yet. But everything else is up.

...I wasn't expecting such a positive reaction on the photos, but again, if you guys want a high-res version of any of them tell me and I'll post them up.

Thanks,
-Matt

Edit, should probably put the url in again:

Since I've gotten a good number of PM's about the photos...
Tell me what sizes you guys want (300dpi is 10.24in x 6.8in, in 250dpi it is 12.3in x 8.2in, and in the lowest quality I'd think of going 14.3in x 9.5in at 215dpi.) And I'll host them on my server so you guys can DL them if you want prints, or what have you.
For printing you can either go to kinkos, or If you just want prints without messing with anything tell me and I'll make prints and send em out, just cover the printing and shipping.

Again, here are the images I have now that I can make in B&W high-res formats. (never mind the borders)

That looks really good. I wish I could get a picture of my car like the one you have with the truck showing part of the engine.

Matt, the site looks very nice and artistic. I like the dark overtones, it gives the project a no bs attitude. Good job!

That site looks awesome, I love how clean it is, compared to the clutter of most car type sites.
