Guys,
I have a very interesting proposition for you:
Popular Hot Rodding has been asked by the highest levels of Primedia management to seek out a few reliable, trustworthy reader experts to be available for informal, confidential consultation. This would involve looking at one or more proposed covers and providing confidential feedback prior to release on the newsstand.
In the future, we will make every attempt to fine-tune our covers, cover blurbs and content for maximum newsstand sales, and one of the best ways to do this is with the help of knowledgeable, caring enthusiasts.
To do this, we will need a pool of about 20 to 30 regular PHR readers. Each member of this elite group will need to provide me with his or her name, email address and daytime phone number. This way, I will be able to email each of those on the list one or more medium-resolution pdf files for review. The benefit to you is that you get to see ahead of time what we're planning and you also get to make a real contribution to the magazine. We will require that you keep your knowledge of stories and photos confidential until the time of publishing and not share them between yourselves, including other members on the committee.
Typically I expect the following: Roughly once a month, I will email each of you one or more cover images with blurbs and inset photos. I will ask you to give me your initial impression of them, express likes and dislikes, and whether or not you would buy it. In some cases I may ask for additional comments to clarify your position. In most cases, I will not be able to make changes to the internal content of the magazine--the purpose of this will be to find out how to get the message across as quickly and emotionally as possible. As the months go by and I get a better sense of your likes and dislikes, you will see the magazine gradually change to reflect your interests better in terms of the stories we offer--so you will become a very important focus group for us.
Obviously, you need a mailbox size which can accomodate this size file and you need to be able to open pdf files.
We want a broad cross-section of readers, so age, gender, income or profession does not matter here. Please note: we are not looking for "yes men." Rather, we are looking for people who can make the commitment to constructive criticism.
If you would like to be a part of how PHR is made and this sounds fun to you, please email me at [email protected]. Please use the subject line: Cover Test Committee, and include your full name, email address and daytime phone number.
Just so you know, the Pro-Touring message forum is the only one this offer is being posted on!
Thanks in advance,
