Almost completed install of new painless wiring harness. I have tried a correct 69 headlight switch and have NO front running. The headlights work! 2ND tried a swithch from the local hack parts store and the parking lights now come on till I swith the headlights on then the parking go out. 0 volts at wire feeding parking lights?
The 69 switch is new from the dealer GM :here!: Any ideas? Cannot find a bad ground?
Thank You Kevin

This kept happening to me with my headlights i just kept getting headlight switches. I kept having a short in my light switch, I never had to pay for one because it was a defect part.

If I remember correctly, the parking lights should go off when the headlights are on on these cars. That's the way my '72 442 works.

Nope. The parking lights work as the turn signals also for camaros. They stay on when you turn the headlights on

Thanks for the information. ROB did you jump out the switch? Do you think my swithchis junk? Not following you onthe short, was that refering to the bad swithches? I just crawled out from under the dash, the swithch shuts off the parking lights as headlights came on. ,..... Lost the headlights for half hour and they come back on . I have had switches in ten times tonight alone. I dont hear the relay on the fuse box doing anything .
Any ideas appreachiated .

Well there are 2 types of switches for the 69. With center counsle gauges, and without center counsle gauges. My Car came with out a center counsle but had the wiring for the gauges and reverse and neutral lights. Did you get the right switch?

The switch should be the same for most 60's till the 90's in most GM cars and trucks. If the switch plug has the wires switched you'd get the trouble you describe. All pre 68 GMs were that way. The switch is the same either way. If you need it I can try to find which pins are switched.

The only difference is the reostat for the dimming if the IP lamps.

This things driving me crazy! I now have three headlight swithches including the factory and though they use different contacts still kill the running lights? Now I also have no headlights without using the high beams? Changed the relay in fuze panal, can somebody tell me what the relay is for? I can close thecontactby hand and notice nothing? THANK YOU ALL
