all of you guys that where of driving age in the 60's 70's and 80s were able to afford really cools car's.... Now there are so many gear heads that were born in the 80's that would love to own a '32 ford, 40 ford, a 55 or 57 chev, a chevelle/camaro/nova, a fast back stang, any mopar muscle car, a GTO, ECT....
My ultimate is a Willies gasser!!! But now these cars are only available to the mid life crises crowd. cars that were once thought of as desoposable are now GOLD
WHAT THE HELL!?!?!
Living in the north east I feel like i am blessed to have a 67 camaro, yet i just talked to a guy who told me stories of how he and his buddies used to demo durbie these cars back in the early 70's!
why did you feel the need to senselessly destroy these cars back in the day?

For the same reason that people feel the need to bash the hell out of 90 mustangs now. Cuz there are lots of them, and people don't see the value now.

exactly! How many would think twice about doing something like that to a 90's mustang. Not many would worry about cutting up a car worth about nothing.

Back in the day we didn't think much of them. Great example as things are now with before mentioned Mustangs and other cars you don't think will be much in the future.
I remember growing up and seeing Camaros and Cudas getting wasted. Hell, we launched a 65 Chevelle 2 door wagon off a cliff back in high school. :nopity:

i threw up when i read that, my parents built and drove 1st gen camaros chevelles elkys tri 5's ect, quite frankly when i was of driving age i wanted nothing to do with that stuff and went to gbodys i havn't looked back since. can't stand to go to circle track race's though, i know exactly where all the gbods ended up.

Well, I could drive in the mid 80's and I don't remember Camaros and Chevelles being that cheap. Cheaper than they are now but everything was cheaper back then...and you made a lot less money. Its all relative I guess. But yea...cars weren't treated then like they are now. I guess we grew up?

Perfect example...everyday on my way to work I would drive by this really nice house that had a early 70's TA SD 455. I loved that car! I would have loved to buy that car! Man! But they were asking something like 5000 for it and that might as well have been 500k to me when I was making 2.90/hour. 5k would be a steal now but not then.
OK...grandpa mode off.

I started driving in the early 80s and remember and bought muscle at reasonable prices. My second car was a 71 skylark I got for $200. my third was a 70 GS Stage1 at $1200. my 4th was a 70 GTO 400 4 speed at $2700. I remember seeing factory hemi cars in deals on wheels for $6500
then the yuppies and berret-jackson got a hold of them and now the average working man can't afford them

I think back at the Camaros and Chevy IIs that I hulled out for dirt late models when I was a kid. Kinda makes me sick now. The guys that had money would buy NEW fenders, quarters, and all other sheetmetal panels from the local Chevy dealer and hull them. The poor boys of course got them from the junk yard. Used to buy windshields a dozen at a time.
They sure made beautiful late model sportsmen cars though.

I have one for you from just a couple of years ago. A local guy that lives down the street from me has a habit of cutting up mid 70's camaro bodies for a trashed out dirt track car he has. One day an ealy 70's trans am shows up on his trailer, a white one with the single blue stripe that runs up the center of the hood over the shaker scoop, and down the back over the rear spoiler. The t/a has some rust, but is mostly complete with a 455 & turbo 400.
No amount of discussion with the guy could get him to save the car. He cut it up and used the body panels on his dirt car!!!!
Guys like him are part of the reason the Barret Jackson crowd now think all that early iron is worth so much money.

I started driving in 1980 and got my 68 Firebird in 1981 for 1800.00 with a fresh nice paint job.I worked every day on the farm and worked extra for more cash to buy a car with. I agree money was tight at least for me. I had to pass on a 68 Firebird with all new GM sheet metal included for 500.00 because I did not have the $$$. The rich kids all ways have the cool stuff and regular Joes do the best that can.
